AP buying watches back?

Has anyone got any update on AP buying watches back? Thought it was going to happen in 2019? Interested to see what this does to used prices.

What price are they paying? MSRP? Or close to market?

Has to be a more appealing offer than selling to Greys

I seriously doubt that Would be a ridiculous business model.

Can't imagine they would pay market value as I can not imagine AP selling a used 15202 for 40k while they are selling a new on in the same boutique for 25k. Just makes no sense.
I guess the incentive they could give would be being considered for other "hot" pieces if you sell to them instead of flipping it on the grey market as we all know how frowned upon that is if they find out.

Apple buys computers and phones back, for my macbook pro they quoted 250 EUR on a trade in. Similar models sold for 1200-1500 EUR refurbished....

So even if they do it dont expect the model to favor you

ps.: I understand how the products are different but this is an implementation that would be no different if done by AP, Apple or Audi

I read that 20% below MSRP is what they would be looking to buy them back for but the thekman has a good point. If AP was offering you the same two pieces, one new and one used but they serviced the used one and offered warranty what would you be looking to save to make it worth buying used?

Last conversation I had with the NYC boutique seemed to indicate that this proposal is going nowhere fast. Don't think it's happening.

Shouldn't some of us, esp with the hot models, ask AP for a buy quote? Be good to put some meat on these bones.

There's a pilot version of this underway in Geneva, but they're using the marketing pieces that employees wear as the stock.

I also believe this to be the case and that it 'may' be rolled out to select locations as an extension of the pilot scheme.

I don't believe it is anything other than 'an approved used' route to market, in the same way as car dealers work. Who would you rather purchase a used Ferrari from? An authorised dealer that has serviced and warranted the car, or from Del Boy? (British reference, if you are unfamiliar with the term then you have some great box set TV binging to look forward to).

I'd certainly be more interested in a used AP from AP than from a grey dealer that I don't know of. That said though, there are many very reputable grey dealers and I'm not being critical of them.

This 'used market' has been talked about by AP for quite a while now, whether it comes to anything of consequence is anyone's guess, but I doubt we'll be talking about this in any significant way for quite a while yet.

I think companies like Moser and MB&F are already doing it but then again those companies sell under retail used which applies to actually most APs. The only tricky part is what are they gonna do about used watches that sell above retail?!

Not sure where you are based.

In Singapore, the boutiques are usually bare of steel watches in any of the boutiques, only gold models.

Your only access to steel models are the grey dealers, or join a wait list.

If you have an APRO for sale, the grey and private dealers offer above MSRP. So why would anyone want to sell below MSRP back to AP?

I just sold mine, making $6k profit over my purchasing price to a grey dealer. Think I would sell back to AP at under MSRP??
