Yikes.

I just saw a strange commercial on TV. Attractive woman, boorish man on a dinner date. Turns out they're married, and he needs to attend to business somewhere else. Then, she eyes a handsome stranger, and www,ashleymadison.com flashes on the screen.

Puzzled, I pulled up the site and see it's a place advertising membership for discreet relationships. "Life is short. Have an affair" or something like that.

Ack!

Me too. I've been with my bride for 20 years, married for 16 of them. Proud to wear the ring.

My husband and I had the infidelity conversation once. I assured him I would never cheat because I couldn't imagine going to all the trouble of lying, sneaking around, covering up, etc. Talk about stress! Not to mention the exhaustion of having to make 2 men happy. One is enough.

All that effort just to get laid? No thanks.

My husband thought about it for a minute and then said, "So what you're telling me is that you'll never cheat on me because you're too lazy."

Yeah. Pretty much.

Geez, Carolina - what channel were you watching? I'm amazed that there would be a business like that set up that would actually advertise on television!

Interesting, too, that they geared the ad toward women.

I saw that commercial too. Some people just have no standards! My ex had an affair on me and I punished her the best way possible, I made it possible for her to have the guy!

The company is called Ashley Madison, I hear them advertise on the radio all the time. Weird but I guess there is a market for anything, affairs included.

would the ad have been less offensive if the couple had not been married?

My wife and I were together for many years. When it came time to pick out wedding rings, she encouraged me toward one that went with the stainless steel watches I wear in quasi-rotation. Need I say more?

Not surprising at all. Like smoking and high-stress jobs, society truly is becoming more equalized between the genders!

PS: My wife and I used to watch Cheaters for unwind time. We unplugged from that (no pun intended) when she concluded that all the episodes ended up the same. Duh!

My wife is my best friend, ideal partner, and romantic fantasy. I consider myself the luckiest man in the world to actually be with someone who I passionately want to be with, and who I adore.

No, infidelity of any kind in a committed relationship is obnoxious. However, I believe the word "affair" is reserved for infidelity in marriage. And the premise of the ad really wouldn't make any sense if it was referring to a casual date.

I was just surprised to see that sort of thing advertised in a commercial!

I can't recall - it might have been WE or maybe Bravo?

Yeah, I found that interesting as well. Not terribly surprised, though - I guess this ad was meant to empower women?

Well the ad is interesting but if a married person is going to step out on their partner, they sure don't need a web site to do it!!!

Leo, maybe it's the "eHarmony" for cheating on your spouse??

I have had the chances to, but never even wanted to follow through, my wife is all I need to make me happy, and she does a great job of it...we go out on walks, go to the mall, or just hang out here at the house. I could never even think about having an affair behind her back.

Crazy stuff. Seriously, though - if someone wanted to remain discreet, why would they get a website involved? The potential for discovery would be high, wouldn't it? What if private investigators could hack into the sites, or work on the inside, or what have you?

Unless - as in some marriages, including my parents' - they don't give a flip if the other spouse is cheating?

Good point. Nothing like leaving a potential trail of crumbs leading right back to you.

Crazy! What is this world coming to? Now we have promos for cheating!?

My husband actually told me about this site...apparently they ran an ad during SuperBowl! Guess I missed it.

Pretty sad if you ask me.

I think most couples have had the 'infidelity' talk...if you love and respect your spouse there's no reason to stray IMO.
