Is anyone actually still paying over MSRP for watches from Greys right now?
If so, what is your reasoning?
No judgement at all. |

I haven't (yet) but wouldn't be opposed to paying a small premium over MSRP for a BLNR. I just won't pay 2k + over MSRP for it.

I guess we are not yet in the market where you can walk in and buy hot models. until then for majority the only way to get the watch is to go grey. thats what I did

MSRP is just a number to me. If I find something that I want and the price seems reasonable to me, I buy it. When I buy a watch, I have the intent of keeping it for a very long time, so bumps up and down in purchase price don’t mean much.

I'm about to buy a watch but will definitely not be paying above msrp with a grey dealer. I'm waiting about 1 month because I think prices will be lower than now, and ADs will start opening up with more selection at msrp.

I wouldn’t mind paying a small premium over MSRP.
One of the forums “trusted sellers” currently has a Tudor that I’m interested in listed for 1K over MSRP. That’s just plain nuts. Until some type of sanity returns I’ll be sitting on the sidelines.

I’m going to buy a rainbow Daytona from a grey dealer here in a couple days. It’s only $50k over msrp.
Which is my fine by me because my time is worth a lot more than that. Hahaha I’m kidding, I’m kidding! I wish I had that kind of money though |

I wouldn’t mind paying a small premium as others have said. SS pieces at or below MSRP is wishful thinking by a lot of individuals on this forum. No doubt prices are coming down, but I find it hard to believe considering these past few years that everything is going to plummet. Once the world settles you will see prices steadily and slowly creep back up.

I wouldn’t mind paying a small premium for a BLRO, but I mean small premium like +£500. Not +£5000 like they are currently listed for in the UK
Regardless of the short and mid economy downturn, that is wishful thinking and not going to happen. There will still be a substantial premium over £2k in the UK for BLRO even in the worst of times. |

I'd be in the market for a few when the grey price is less than MSRP + CA sales tax.

The prices haven't dipped that much as supply has also been affected by the Rolex factory closure.
Rolex won't allow this mishap to affect their long term strategy of they can help it. They are embarking on a business model similar to PP whereby they want to create a shortage of the most exclusive models and thus drive up demand. It was working and it probably will continue to work. Wealthy people don't suffer to the same extent as the general population during times like this. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |

I am cheap so I wouldn't pay over MSRP. I also don't know that I would choose even a BNIB for a 10% discount from a grey. I like the experience of buying it at the store, getting my name on the card etc. No knock against anyone and their chosen profession, but I get a lot of piece of mind by buying from an authorized reseller of a product. Finally, since I plan to hang onto the ones I buy and pass them onto my kids, I like the idea of them only being in my family. This would of course change if I had a hankering for a vintage piece.
Sorry for the lengthy response. This social distancing thing is real. |

If you factor in (lack of) sales tax, travel and time to several AD's which is very limited at the moment anyway, convenience of the watch you want being delivered to your front door, yeah I would be willing to still pay over MSRP with a trusted seller to get a watch I really want.

I still remember a time when buying from a grey dealer meant paying under MSRP for brand new watches with your name on the warranty card.
Will we ever get back to that? Who knows. I felt that back then the greys served a great purpose. They helped ADs move volume of desirable and undesirable watches. As a consumer I could get what I wanted quickly without having to deal with an AD bs and saved money too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Guess it really depends on a few factors.
First and foremost, Do you have money to spend? I suspect that as the financial crisis continues, there will be far less people with disposable income to spend on expensive watches. However, there will always be people with lots of money to spend on whatever they like. Second, How hard is it to get he watch from an AD? Is there a waiting list, How often do they replenish stock, etc? Third, How badly do you want it? Do you want to wait, or do you want to have it now? |

Why not ? A few bucks more or less on a lifetime pleasure is irrelevant

Marc, I can't help but think despite you stating that there will be "no judgement"...all there will be by starting this thread is judgement from everyone. If you need proof, look around at the comments in the threads about the grey dealers and Rolex pricing

If they have created a warranty card that is nameless on its face, then the AD is likely encoding the buyers name at time of sale. That way, during the card swipe process to register the warranty, the true buyer’s name is loaded into Global Rolex Service network. I don’t know about this new card myself. If true, then the grey’s are not selling blank cards - I’d wager AD is inserting a name and it won’t be yours unless the grey takes it to his source AD for processing.
