What I don’t get is saying the Hulk is hard to get when there are literally 700 of them for sale on C24. Okay another thing I don’t get is because there are 700 available why don’t prices go down as I would would think with a glut of product.
Or maybe 700 stubborn sellers?

Something has to give eventually - there are people like me who want a Hulk and there are people who want to sell a Hulk but so far nobody is blinking

No way.

The market price is falling too quick. We (USA) are just two or three weeks into C19 and prices have fallen 5-10%.

Who knows where the price will be in two or three months?

I suspect that as the financial crisis continues, there will be far less people with disposable income to spend on expensive watches. However, there will always be people with lots of money to spend on whatever they like.

Second, How hard is it to get he watch from an AD? Is there a waiting list, How often do they replenish stock, etc?
Third, How badly do you want it? Do you want to wait, or do you want to have it now?
This.

MSRP is great & the chances are probably really good now if you have a good relationship with an AD. If you don't, you're SOL cause there is still a waiting list & those people above you probably have the funds set aside.

I've paid above MSRP from a Grey for a Batman. Why? There is a sense of joy when I have it on my wrist. I'm a proud owner and at the end of the day, that's all the matters. I buy to keep.

I worry about myself & not what other people are paying or what other people are charging. You know what you can afford. You pay to play. If you don't want to go Grey then you wait.

I don’t know about this new card myself. If true, then the grey’s are not selling blank cards - I’d wager AD is inserting a name and it won’t be yours unless the grey takes it to his source AD for processing.

Generally speaking I’m opposed to paying above MSRP for really anything. That said, would I perhaps pay a bit above MRSP for the sake of saving some time and gaining enjoyment? Yes, maybe a bit. But not double MSRP such is the case with a white SS Daytona for example. Would I pay ~$16k or so - yes, likely. That would be about $2k more than the OTD price from an AD. Am I dreaming right now? Yes. Would I still be dreaming come end of summer - maybe not. We’ll have to wait and see how the economy unfolds.

And to the OPs original question - no I have not done it. I just picked up a Hulk from an AD at MSRP of course.

Would anyone still pay $20+K for a BNIB Daytona500 that has no warranty?

I get the fact that warranties should follow the watch here in US and many other countries. But would be hard if RSC declines a repair.

You must be rich sir.

To answer the ops question, absolutely not. I have not nor will I pay one cent over Msrp. These are watches that no one needs. Of the 3 Rolex watches i have all were bought well below Msrp. No one needs a 10k sub. To be honest I even question the fact why I own these things lol

+1 all except Daytona will go back to MSRP. Volatility we see in the market right now is nothing compared to what's coming. Unemployment will ramp up, small businesses will be forced to close. It's going to get bad and watches aren't going to be immune.

One of the forums “trusted sellers” currently has a Tudor that I’m interested in listed for 1K over MSRP. That’s just plain nuts. Until some type of sanity returns I’ll be sitting on the sidelines.
What Tudor is $1k over?

Fair question. I myself have been toying with the idea of adding a 2nd Rolex this year. I have the funds set aside so it is more of a question of when for me rather than if...

However the current economic challenges have definitely made me lean towards the cautious wait and see approach for now. I have noticed more volume than normal hitting the for sale section and it has definitely caused prices on some models to soften. 114060 subs, for example, are not too far from MSRP right now.

So my question was aimed at people in a similar boat to me, out of those ready to buy, who is doing so and who is holding out still to see where things go. I would very much like a 2nd watch but at the same time I can certainly wait 2-3 months. Maybe it means I save $500-$2000 or maybe I don’t. But time will reveal all

Only reason I wouldn’t buy grey is I don’t want someone else’s name on my watches card, I don’t mind the few grand over

No, because every time I get tempted, I decide to wait another day to see where prices are tomorrow. Trending down = wait and be patient

I recently bought at (very) slightly under retail at my local "grey" dealer in Japan.
I don't think I could pay over retail at a grey and feel right about it.

I never pay over MSRP. Just ask to be placed on the list and wait to I get a call.

BLNR near 11500 USD or BLRO near 13000USD and I am reaching for my checkbook. Here in California I am looking at 10600 at the AD with tax anyway... but my AD wants me to buy a DD too. A little rich for my blood in this market.

Yes, and I wish it were otherwise. The solutions will be measured in months, not weeks. At some point, the economy will be opened up, but it will be a slow start. Without a vaccine, many will not feel safe, will worry about catching the virus (or re-catching it), or catch it and another spike will occur. Without extensive testing, which we're not even close to being able to do, we're looking at herd immunity. That takes time and means many have to get sick--just not all at once so as to overwhelm the country. Right now, we know so little about COVID. There's more we don't know than do. The luxury watch market is heading into a backwater. The question is for how long, and what does the industry do to ride this out and come out the other side strong.

If you're looking to buy something, just wait. Give it til May, and then see where the prices are. Prices are dropping weekly. So many on TRF who can afford to buy, even if offered hot pieces at MSRP, will deploy their money elsewhere. We're off the map people.

BLNR already listed for $11.2k recently on a competitor forum and don't think it sold.

If a CHNR was 5% over or BLNR was 10% over MSRP I'd be super tempted

I think the craziest thing of this entire thread is that you still use a checkbook in 2020.

Figure of speech of course. I prefer showing up with a LV backpack with my rubber-banded cash.

Not sure where you guys get some of your stats from.

BLNR....5 have sold at $13k in the last 2 weeks on Ebay.

Are prices going down a little? For sure.

Are they ever getting back to MSRP? Be serious.

and only one has sold in the past 10 days. Whereas in January and before, multiple were selling DAILY. That tells me a lot more than the price.

Yeh how many additional people just filed for unemployment in the USA? The Markets have tanked. Unnecessary luxury items accessible to the normals (Rolex) will reflect that. At least on the overpriced inventories held by shops who will feel the pinch the most.

If you sell webcams or monitors right now? Yeh price gouge away

Huh? Three have sold since April 2.

This whole COVID shelter in place has been going on for 3 weeks minimum now.....

People are still buying. As a result, you aren't going to see prices dip much lower.

Again, prices have gone down.....but grays don't have 40 of these sitting around. All they need is ONE sale at a price and when they know they will be able to get that (based off a sale).....they won't lower the price any more than that. I've seen plenty of grays in the last 2-3 weeks on Ebay sell one at a lower price...and then relist a subsequent one $500 higher. They know what they are doing.
