Anyone have a Day Date 40 in Platinum and one in Gold?
Wondering if you have both if you can post some pics but more importantly share your thoughts on the feel of both watches on the wrist and any other thoughts about them in comparison. I know platinum is heavier. How substantial is the difference on the wrist and is it a positive attribute?
It’s is a little bothersome that platinum now trades for substantially less than gold and despite purity reasons platinum watches still fetch such a substantial premium. I am thinking of a DD in the future and am mulling over if the difference between the two metals might be worth springing for the substantially more expensive platinum version. Thanks! |

I have the PT DD 40 and a Sub in Gold. Went through this same process when looking at DD’s, went with PT for the DD though instead of another gold.
Different beasts altogether. PT is def heavier. It’s a little more subdued than Yellow gold, but it has an angelic look to it that SS doesn’t have. Very beautiful stuff. I like having one of each. |

I own a Platinum and YG DD II. Both are great watches and the only thing I would ever change about the DD models is the lack of adjustment with the bracelet. I prefer the DD II as I have a larger wrist and there is a difference in the DD40 and the DD II. I think the watches are both different enough to be in a collection.

The only difference is the weight and look. Platinum would be too heavy for some but as far as with my own experience you'll get used to the weight after frequrnt wearing. Positive or not is up to you. As for me it's neither. It’s is a little bothersome that platinum now trades for substantially less than gold and despite purity reasons platinum watches still fetch such a substantial premium. Trust me no PM watch is worth the price for its purity and alloy's worth. platinum watches costs more cos during the manufacturing process, platinum loses more material than gold while machining and milling. Thats why they cost more even though platinum as an alloy trades lower than gold. I am thinking of a DD in the future and am mulling over if the difference between the two metals might be worth springing for the substantially more expensive platinum version. It's up to you to decide which PM DD pulls on your heart string. Thanks! Don't mention it cheers and good luck on your DD choice.! Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk |

The extra weight is a positive (to me, not a daily). Mine is gone but I have a wg Dd40 I very much enjoy. These are both overpriced so I wouldnt worry about the metal pricing

Have WG and platinum in DD36. Actually they’re very different. Wear the WG more. Don’t like yellow gold.

That's a nice piece. I would go with white gold or platinum. YG is an attention getter, while the WG and PT looks like SS to a lot of people. Only those who are into watches would notice a WG or PT Rolex DD right away.

I have the YG DD and have had the PT. Had both at the same time at one point. The weight isn’t significant once on the wrist for a few minutes (IMO)...IF....you’re used to wearing PM. If not, you’ll notice the weight a bit more, for a longer period, but eventually melts away. As far as visual differences, it’s pretty obvious...if you want the classic DD, that will get definitively more attention...get YG. The fluted bezel is spectacular, and unmistakable. The PT looks no different to any SS watch to 99% of the population. IMO, White colored PM is for the enjoyment of the wearer. So depending on your wants, needs, others in your collection, intentions on use, etc...pick what works best for you, and what you’ll love looking at the most. I personally love both and there’s no wrong answer when choosing a DD...only personal preference.

I like heavier watches, but with two caveats: Adjustability and fit.
My thoughts on the DD are that it's a great watch, but you have to face facts that unless you are extraordinarily lucky, you're not going to get the same fit as you do with other watches that have some sort of micro adjustment. Granted, there is the 1.25 link option, but A) it's obscenely expensive, and B)odds are, it's still not going to give you the perfect fit. I have one on my WG DD40 right now and it's worked wonderfully, but I recently lost quite a bit of weight and now I'm back at the drawing board. I can live with a gold watch sliding around a smidge, but I can tell you from personal experience, platinum sliding around is a NO GO for me. Long story short, I went for the Daytona in platinum and the DD in gold. My two cents, YMMV. |

I went through the exact same debate, which evolved into YG vs PT. I eventually added one of each, though in 36mm (small wrists), because they have totally different characters relative to each other. Millennials can be fickle. YG/fluted/champagne is “classic Rolex” all day long, but it’ll never fly under the radar (see my handle) in daily use. That can really limit where/how you decide to wear it. Platinum, though more expensive and much rarer than a President in any gold, is actually much easier to “daily” than a gold President. Any inner debate which adds a DD to your collection is a great one. |
