+1 on Amy Winehouse. You could not pay me to sit through a Britney show but that's ok-different tastes make the world go 'round and as long as YOU are happy, then life is good. beavisbutthead.gif |

WHOA!! WHOA!!
What began as a perfectly innocent thread posted by a young, 19-year old girl.....has now degenerated to this!! Let's just keep it nice and clean, guys. If you don't like someone that's fine; but to openly slander and abuse that person is unnecessary, unethical, rude and uncalled for. Also, I think we need to show some respect to the wonderful ladies on our forum - is that too much to ask? Thank you - JJ PS: You just have yourself a great time, Ashley.......never mind any of the above comments!!

I need to clarify my post as it may have incited something that was not my intention. What I meant by composing a coherent thought, was that I (now not so) "secretly" like Britney Spears music, though some people think I'm nuts, since I'm 36. Whatever people. Lots of men AND women go through difficult times in their lives, often more severe than BS, but unfortunately hers was in the media spotlight, which made it no easier.

She just played to a large enthusiastic audience in Toronto on Tuesday. I tried to get 4 tickets for my clients that I knew would have really enjoyed seeing Britney but they fell through at the last minute
Enjoy the show!!!!!! |

A few of my friends saw her in concert recently and they all enjoyed the show immensely. Sounds like a good time.

Ashley, it's your money and your time. Go ahead and enjoy the concert. It should be no concern of ours and you don't need any of our approvals.

Well this thread took an unexpected turn! Thank you to everyone who wishes me a good time, and also thank you to the valiant knights of the forum who came to defend my honour. I adore you all
I realized today that I have last seen Britney Spears exactly ten years ago, which is just over half my lifetime ago! Back in the day, as I said, I really wasn't a fan of her poppy, cutesy music and image. (Those were my "rapping" years ) However, my heart goes out to the woman. As some of you know, I am a big celebrity gossip fan, and she really has been through a lot. And unfortunately, she had no control over the rabid, incessant media footage of a very public mental breakdown. I admire Britney for bouncing back (for real this time, her last "comeback" cd was no where near the caliber of her newest one, "Circus.") It has been said that she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and even if this is actually false, obviously she was having a very hard time. She had people who were using her for fame and money, and no one at all in her corner. At the height of her despair (again, very public), I wanted nothing more than to give her a huge hug. In the end, her father had to handle everything at all pertaining to her life. For a woman in her mid-twenties, you have to agree that it must have been a difficult transition compared to how she had been living before. She has completely turned around based on how she is presenting herself, but a few months ago she released a kind of "day-in-the-life of.." type documentary. It was apparent to anyone that she is still struggling every day,and that she is still terribly lonely. Having fame of her level must be incredibly difficult to determine who is a true friend, and who is just trying to use you. And yes, I understand that she "chose" to become famous, though she was discovered on a Disney Show "The Mickey Mouse Club" when she was very young. Even though she never asked to be so famous, she is, and she is trying her best to deal with it. Yes, Britney has made mistakes and poor choices. But she is human, despite her fame. I don't know anyone who hasn't made a bad choice in their life, but I also don't know anyone who has made a mistake and have it become front-page news. She may not be the ideal "role-model" for young girls (neither is Miley Cyrus, no matter how hard Disney tries to pimp her out as one), but I think that anyone who has changed their lives in a positive way is a positive role model. Celebrities, priests, bishops, and so on are on the highest pedestals, and when they fall, they fall hard. But we as a society are the ones putting these celebrities up on a pedestal, and most of us are secretly hoping for that person to fall off. Some people aren't able to turn their lives around, and that is a real tragedy. So, she may not be perfect, but she sure has my respect! Wow, that turned into quite a mouthful. If anyone gets through my entire speech, I commend you! I cannot wait for the concert, and I am not ashamed to admit it! If we're speaking about embarrassing musical tastes, I'll also admit that I have always liked the song "Invisible" by Clay Aiken, and that is something that I wouldn't usually admit! Like Britney, I am human! Oops, there I go again blabbing. Okay, I've said my piece! Thanks again everyone, and especially the valiant knights of TRF! |

And hey, I dressed up as Britney Spears for Halloween, it was just natural that I would go to any length to get to her concert! (Even though it is in Edmonton, and that city is just so grey)
