Your assessment of this 5513

Hello! Been a member since 2011 and was active here for a few years. Haven't browsed for many years until a few days ago, when I started thinking about potentially buying a new Rolex or Panerai.
While I am a fan, I don't have the eye or expertise of the many members here so wanted to get your opinion on my 5513.
I picked this up about 10 yrs ago in a sale/trade from another watch forum. It's a R serial # so its from 1987,1988 I believe. I wore it regularly for a few years and then sat in my drawer for many years.
What is your overall assessment of it? Do the lugs look like they were polished? Do the dial/bezel/hands look to be original? What could this potentially sell for (I do have the bracelet, which incidentally I bought from a seller on this forum!).
Thinking I may sell it and put it towards the purchase of a brand new watch.
Thanks for looking!

Oh and sorry for the watermarks! I didn't realize that photobucket is now placing them for free accounts!

Even opening them in Photobucket, the resolution is too low, so they all appear out of focus. Do you have another method of uploading them? Like, Tapatalk?
That said, yes, the case looks polished.

OK, since you bumped the thread, I'll try to explain why your thread isn't going anywhere.

One reason you're not getting responses is because the photos aren't good enough for people to provide useful opinions. In every photo, there's a tiny watch in the center of a big field of view, and the photo is focused either on your fingers or the fabric background. And the watermarks are obnoxious. I looked at them when you first posted them, and then just moved on. I figured that if you couldn't be bothered to post decent photos, why should I spend my time and strain my eyes trying to decipher them.

If you really want some help (or even if you're just trying to get offers by PM), it would be worth the effort to take some good high-res photos, in-focus and with good lighting, and figure out how to upload them correctly. And also ... get the bracelet out of storage and post photos of that as well.

Another reason you may not be getting a ton of responses is that people aren't always super enthusiastic about putting in a lot of energy to provide free advice just so someone can sell a watch. It's not hard for you to look at sold eBay listings and the forum classifieds and figure out a value. But if you tried a little harder, I think that someone would probably help.

Thanks for your thoughts. I will try to take better pics and use a different photo hosting platform w/o water marks.
And I do apologize if this came across as trying to get free advice just so I can sell the watch. While I may sell, I will more likely keep it and give it to my son some day.
Anyhow, will try to update with better pics. Thanks!

Nice looking case. Probably had a light polish, but looks thick with straight lug holes. I'd want to see a UV photo of the dial and hands. Could be the lighting, but the trititum/lume looks very toothpaste white. Could be fine, but I'd want to investigate further. Looks like a service crystal that needs some TLC. (Looks like the head of your bezel pearl got lopped off, or perhaps the whole thing got pushed in.)

Following up on the comment above, another reason you're probably not getting a lot of responses is that valuation requests are frowned upon:

Thanks. And yeah...shouldn't have asked for valuation. I was mainly looking to get a good assessment of the condition, if parts look original, etc...and based on the info, I can check to see what it could go for. So a faux pas on my part.

As for the dial/hands...I can try to get better pics. But as far as I can tell...the pics seem to represent them correctly.

I'd be interested to see a photo of the dial/hands under a UV/blacklight. That could give you clues about whether the lume is original tritium. If you don't have a black light, mini UV flashlights are about $10 and well worth it if you're into vintage watches.

Value: based on the photos and missing bracelet - more than $5,000 and under $10,000.

There are hundreds of these watches sold and for sale the past year. Do some research yourself - it is much more rewarding.

Looks correct to me. The lume color looks fine for an R serial. I've owned multiple 5513's from 87-89 and all of them had that slightly off white color for the lume. The case is nice and thick. All in all it's a nice later example of a 5513.

All things considered, I think the condition is pretty close to the average for a late 80s ref 5513, so it shouldn't be hard for you to estimate the value. Don't forget the bracelet.
