Guesstimate on AD Spend

Curious - what number opens the door for a Daytona?....
I work with two AD’s - 5 watches in 14 months from one them.....

In NYC, probably at least six figures. Then again relationship matters as well. What were the watches you bought?

If the five watches were all Rolex, that would definitely open the door here in Canada. If the watches weren't all Rolex, then it depends on how much you've spent.

If the 5 were all Rolexes. And 1-2 PM - you should have had your Daytona by now.

Here in ATL, if I had purchased a Platona then the SS Daytona500 would have been part of a bundle. That was about 6-9 months ago.

It depends what you buy , if you bought 5 SS Rolex sports models then it closes the door more than open.

If you bought some DJ, DD in gold and diamonds then you should’ve already had a Daytona by now.

If you don’t want those but don’t want to wait, best to buy grey...

All AD’s (and “the relationship”) are not created equal. I asked for and received a SS Daytona after buying two other SS Professional models all over a 23 month spread. Spend amount was never mentioned.

As many others have said, depends on your location and what type of watches you’ve bought / total spend.

Also, if the AD sells jewelry, sometimes watches won’t be enough. 100k in diamond jewelry sales is worth more to them than 100k in Watch sales.

My friend bought a Submariner 12 months ago, then 6 months ago get got a Batman on Jubilee, his contact at this popular NY AD is assuring him a Panda Daytona in the next few months. I feel like it’s definitely the relationship that’s helping him. I’ve bought 5 watches from my AD and I just recently got the green light for a Batman on Jubilee once they open.

Same, 2 watches. One was a 37mm YM and the other was an LV Sub. Now I have a Daytona after 12 months..

I’ve spent six figures with an AD in Miami and can’t get a Daytona. I bought mine grey.

The first watch I ever bought from an AD was a 116520 white dial back in 2007. Waited about 6 months. When all the other AD’s I walked into brushed me off, this AD gave me the time of day and they have never played any bundling games with me over the years.

I saw from your other post that you have a BLRO, SD43 and SubDate all in the past few months.

So it really depends what the other 4 watches are that you bought in the past year.

BLRO and SS Daytona are two of the most hard to get watches usually put aside for DD or PM shoppers.

My friend bought a DD with Diamond bezel which he really liked and the AD said this qualifies you for a SS model, which one would you like?

He already has everything so called his nephew if there was any rolex he’s looking for.

And he walked out with an SS Daytona (white) in addition to his purchase.

When he picked up a few PPs they gave him a BLRO and a black SkyD at MSRP. He got them for his family members as he already has all of those.

So again, it really depends what your other purchases were. But you can bet your top dollar they’re in the safe, waiting for that big spender...

If they aren't calling to offer you one, then you havent spent enough.

It will take A LOT more spending on higher margin goods to get you there.

If you are not a PM buyer you prolly won't get there.

Absolutely right.

I was on the list for a blue SkyD for over a year.

Meantime it was my 20th wedding anniversary and we got 2 YG presidents (DJ28 and DD40) this month at a nice discount... In 5 days I got the call to pick up my Blue SkyD... Don’t forget, Rolex factory is closed... So it must have been in the safe all the while...

They have a blro for me but said I have to wait for another month or so, and to enjoy my SkyD first...

The first two were an SD43 for me and a TT date just for my wife ( key Anniversary gifts).
Followed by a Rootbeer , Submariner Date and last month a Pepsi.

The other two are a Polar Explorer II and an Air King.
My ( possibly) naive hope is that as both AD’s will have substantial rent payments to make that they will open up their vaults. I would not think it feasible that they can afford to be sitting on inventory too much longer.
My “lucking” out on the Pepsi, ( I can only assume) being a case in point. If the wait list was that long, I jumped it pretty quickly....

I spent less than 30K at my AD and was offered my choice of color for a Daytona within 4 months. First watch I got from them was a BLNR on oyster. I also got a Pepsi a few months ago after only waiting 6 months. I feel like I’m really lucky with the relationship I have with my AD.

Your question implies you have plenty of money. So just buy what you want grey market. To me that is much better than trying to figure out how much to spend to earn your AD's precious approval. I get many are like oh my principle is I won't pay above MSRP. Okay, so that means your principle is let me instead spend thousands on crap I don't want so I can by something I do at my principled price. Unless of course you actually want all the thousands of dollars worth of stuff you need to spend along the way, then disregard my comment.

How long is the piece of string? Unless they have used your AD then the perspectives don't really add much. The catchment, sentiment and stock will be different.

I'd opinionate that competition for purchase would be with customers who spend 100k for fun (if it's NYC), the watch itself is a hype watch which is v popular in the career driven older male demographic. Ie lots of competition in that city. Or prob just in Midtown alone.

there's no hard fast rule....

all ADs are different.

depends on the city you're living in

all depends on the store policy / manager

To be honest your in NYC. Your probably a small potato compared to their real VIPs even with your 5 watch purchase within 14 months. Did the 5 watches even add up to $100k? If not your nowhere near the top of the VIP list clientele.

Never understood these posts. If your buying watches that you dont really want in order to buy a Daytona at MSRP it makes ZERO sense.

The premium on the Daytona on a BNIB is about $10k. Just pay up then and save yourself $90k. LOL

With all due respect, why do you need a Daytona after having the 5980 and 26331? These 2 are IMO 1 step above the Daytona.

These "minimum spent amount" are bullsh***.
ADs who only consider spent amount are not worth working with, except if it fits your mentality, IMO.
I have a fabulous AD who prefers the human relationship you build, authenticity and integrity rather than show-off and "hey, look at me, I have $$$ to spend, so I should be first for this hard to get piece".
That's how I got my LV without any prior Rolex purchase. He knows I won't buy another piece before a few years, but it doesn't matter, because he was happy to make someone happy and help celebrate a milestone.
