SKX advice please
Looking for some advice from forum members on SKX009
Been looking at these for some time and it just seems to be the best value beater go anywhere watch on the market at a price that’s tough to beat My question, and please forgive ignorance here, apart from fact they are made in different countries, in the real world Is there any siGnificant difference between K and J references? Thanks in advance |

I always like Marc from LIW as a pretty pragmatic guy who's highly versed in modern Seikos as that's his livelihood.
Here's a good VIDEO to help explain the J and K references. I personally have both and outside of text and day wheel differences, I see no difference in the parts or quality. Fun, quirky, handsome, solid little watch with that unique idiosyncratic jubilee. I think a must have in one's stable. FWIW, he says J models are made in Japan as evidenced on the dial and "JAPAN" on the case back, and doesn't say anything about where the K is made. Just throwing it out there. I know it's a touchy subject and I take no sides, lol.

This has been debated forever. No one knows for certain except for Seiko. Personally they are the exact same watch. Just some bloggers try to make one sound more valuable than the other.

I’ve owned both (have an 007K at the moment) and could see no quality difference at all

The SKX 007 and 009 cost a fortune on Amazon. It may be because they are no longer made. I have one of each from when they were still made and cost less. Smart posters may know where they can be purchased economically.

The J model has “21 Jewels” and made in Japan on the dial.....the K model doesn’t.
Other than that they are the same watch |

This. ^ There are people out there that will argue with you till they're blue in the face, thinking one watch is superior than the other; better finishing, better parts, more experienced watch makers, etc., etc.. As Dan said, it is only a designation for the country of origin that they will be sold in. Nothing more. It would be silly for them to label one watch as inferior to another of the same model. Who would want to buy the lesser grade model? And why would they make the same model in two separate locations? It doesn't even make sense.

I don't think there is a difference personally, other than the minor differences on the dial. But the K and J does not relate to the country of origin they are sold in. The "J" or "K" were only available in Japan as an import (well certainly for the last 5 years or so anyway). I had to get mine shipped to Japan from Australia. |

I have a 007k and 009J... I prefer the Made in Japan and 21 Jewels dial better, and to me, the case finishing of the J version appears to be a bit crisper around the transitions from polished to brushed and along some of those wonderful long curving case line transitions... great to have a nice edge and distinctive brushing in those spots. Could just be my luck, but I’d go J version all day.

I always thought the K and J denoted the country of origin.
K’s being made in Malaysia or Singapore, vs the J’s being made in Japan |

I try to get the J variant, if available. Some are only J’s, such as SKX011. Some are never J, as in SKX013. I own all of the SKX models, except the quite rare red dial version. My favorite is my SKXA35, the yellow dial Variant. Mine is neither J or K, it is the rare Singapore version. I highly suggest you pick one up, as they are no longer being produced. The rarer models are selling for up to $900.00 on eBay.
