Who has a YG or WG Rolex?

I was just wondering how many people have a YG or WG Rolex and which one do you have? Are you happy with it? Would you buy another? Do you wear it often? Are there issues owning an all gold watch (i.e. easy to ding, stretches faster, etc)?

I have the YG day\date. so far no problems. it stands out so much, which is why i wanted it.. i wear it about 2-3 days a week

WG DD here .. don't wear mine every day, since I'd rather fubar a steel sub than a day-date .. no matter how careful you are, you never know what you're going to hit .. a gold watch is going to get more scratches than a steel watch, since the gold is softer ...

I have a YG DD, and have had a YG Sub, loved them both. This one doesn't get much (well, any) wrist time, but it's a great classic watch.

YG DD, I like it, but I dont wear it anymore. It just sits in the safety deposit box. I think (at this time at least) it will be the only full YG Rolex I will own.

I forgot to mention that while 18kt may be technically "softer" than SS, I have found no serious differences with the gold watches I own in terms of wear issues. Some, usually those that don't own them, lead you to believe gold is tantamount to frozen butter in terms of durability, it's not the case. I certainly don't work on my car or dig ditches with it on so maybe I do baby it some, but aside from looking stupid, it would needless risk damage. I treat my SS models the same way too. Don't let false notions of fragility stop you from buying a gold watch if you want one.

We love our gold models. You can't go wrong with gold and having both YG and WG would be nice. My wife wants to add a WG pres to the collection this year.

I have to agree with Matt. I haven't noticed the 18kt being any more fragile than the SS models. I've had several of the SS and TT but prefer the gold. That said, here's my daily beater and I love it. There's nothing wrong with SS or TT, I just prefer the feeling and look of gold on my wrist.

I just acquired a Sub TT "Blusey" and I'm really liking it. I have noted though that when photographing it, it does show scratches a lot worse than a SS model (had several of those). Usually you can't see them with the naked eye but a high end camera shows them prominently. I remember see ads on here and other forums for yellow gold watches and seeing that they were really scratched up. Now I see why they looked like that.

I have three. I'm very happy with them. No issues. No noticeable difference in wear and tear between them and my SS watches.

When taking a pic of any model, the brightness of the flash will show every little scratch. You can get the same effect by holding the watch under a bright white LED light or white fluorescent lamp. But gold acquires those very fine scratches much faster than SS - the kind that gives the finish a "hazy" look that's only visible under bright light. Under normal lighting conditions, the haziness will not show - instead, the finish will just appear duller.

Fortunately, these tiny surface scratches that cause the dullness and haziness can be buffed out of gold in seconds (literally) without losing much of the metal. And, in my opinion, any hobbyist can learn how to do this on their own - a one time investment of about $300 bucks is required for the equipment and a little practice. On stainless, while the equipment cost is about the same, it takes a certain amount of skill to get things really perfect and the time required to buff stainless is about 10x longer than soft metals (such as gold).

Edit: buffing white gold is an exception and best suited for a professional jeweler as opposed to doing it on your own. The reason is because white gold is rhodium plated (to make it look whiter) and the plating would have to be restored after each polish job.

I wear my 116718 at least once a week and haven't noticed any different wear marks than the SS models I own. I love the look and feel. No substitute for a YG watch, just is special!

My mother in law has had the classic gold ladies' DJ (gold dial, fluted bezel, jubilee band) for more than 25 years. She was the first person I knew really well who had a Rolex (I didn't grow up in a high rent district, shall we say). She wore (and still wears) hers every day, and everywhere...tennis, swimming (including beach), etc. That's when I learned that Rolex watches are really tough, and aren't just a piece of jewelry. I don't think she's ever had hers serviced by an AD, but the watch has been serviced a few times (including numerous crystal replacements) by reputable jewelers. While the all-gold look isn't for me (I have the SS/platinum YM) hers is still a nice looking watch. I don't think any other watch of that caliber could have taken the use that hers has.
