Rolex Ad offered my 20% off on DD40

Hello, an AD offered me 20% with bank check only BUT I have to pay tax on it which is 6% so, it works out on my end 14% Question, would a grey dealer be able to do better for a NIB with all papers etc. for a 228238 since the mark up is 38% Thank you

It’s a good price. Below is an eBay search on a new 228238. I would pay a premium over eBay to purchase from an AD.

14% off an at AD could be anywhere from okay to quite good depending which DD40 dial it is. You could almost certainly do better from a grey dealer/reseller (remember, you can negotiate with them, too) for full kit and warranty, but there's also something to be said for supporting local brick-and-mortar dealers.

And, if it bothers you to be associated with a sports team, maybe don't choose a username that looks an awful lot like a sports team?

A few years ago you get 20% without a blink on solid gold. The prices now are unreasonable. It will deflate eventually

Most ADs are not offering any discounts with uncertain supply for the rest of the year. Buy that one if you want it and start or further the AD relationship.

Why would an AD offer a discount on any professional or classic Rolex..even a PM?

No reason to...so if they are willing, go for it before they go out of business...because discounting Rolex in this market is not a good look...

I think 20% discount from msrp is the best price that you can find. I wish Rolex boutique in my area would do the same. I would rather buy from boutique/ad if the price different not more than $500 from grey.

Very fair price in today's market. At this price point, I'd much rather buy direct from a local AD. If going grey means 5%+ of additional savings, then I might start to reconsider.

Math note- your discount is actually a little bit better than 15%, since you're paying tax on 80% of the watch's MSRP as opposed to 100% of it.

Take the MSRP*0.8 to get the subtotal and then multiply that by 1.06, the result is MSRP*0.848, or a discount of 15.2%. This is how your final bill of sale should be calculated.

I'm sure a grey dealer could do better- but I am unsure that the difference would be worthwhile, since your loyalty to your AD is likely to help you get tougher-to-get pieces (even if you want one in the future).

I got a 2,000$ discount from a DD40
That’s it.

Two years ago got a 25% on a DD36 from Ad

Gold is expensive now so....if you can’t afford don’t buy and wait

FWIW I think that’s a really good offer. I have 3 ADs around me and one offered me 10%, another said absolutely no discount, and another whom I’ve purchased from never even replied when I expressed interest.
For the one that said they can’t discount, I told them I would buy it at full retail if they sell me the next Daytona that comes through their door. They declined. I said “what about a SS GMT? They said they can’t promise. Lol. And I’ve purchased 4 watches from them in the past.

Thats a very good discount from an AD. Havent heard of anyone in my watch club getting more than 10% off and thats MAX.

Mostly ppl are getting like a mere 5% or a big fat 0%.
