Put one watch away for 20 years...

If you were going to put a brand new watch away in the safe today for roughly 30 years, solely for the purpose of having a true new vintage piece, which one would you choose?

None, because I don't see the point of owning a safe queen.

A NOS 5 digit sub that was already 20 to 30 years old. 30 years isn’t very old for a watch - barely middle aged.

It’d be interesting to see what the demand for a mint 16610 or 14060 is in 2050.

Meteorite GMT. It is rare to begin with and GMT's have a rich history.

First of all, I'd have to get two immediately so I could wear one and feel OK with putting the other one in the safe. Secondly, it'd probably not be a Rolex. But if we stick to Rolex, might have to be the Rainbow Daytona 116595RBOW.

I would invest the cost of the watch in Apple stock

I think the AirKing has all the makings of going down as a highly sought after collector piece in the years to come. Especially if Rolex kills it off before long.

I think this is entirely hinged upon whether Bloodhound cracks the land speed record or not. Sadly the finances were looking touch and go before Covid. I wished Rolex would just fund the operation until the end. Whatever it takes.

Op, I would not do it myself but it is a fun idea.

My list would be the following:

SD4k
Any NOS 5 digit model
Modern air king
Modern Milgauss

Definitely would do it with something unique versus a boring “hot” watch that the herd is lusting after today because of FOMO

Never, ever would I do such a thing. I wear them, enjoy them, they get scratches and stories. That’s how it goes.

Exactly. It was just a new topic other than the typical boring content.

I would put away a White dialed Milgauss.

History shows that the less popular models do very well over time.

16570 Explorer engraved rehaut & 3186.

Lock it away for 30 years? As long as the OP gets locked away with it, I'm cool with that.

Seriously, freezing assets without generating interest is silly. As pointed out, kind of a 'fun' idea but not realistic let alone practical.

Probably a Patek Grand Complication. I would be hesitant to wear it anyways and they tend to do well in auctions once discontinued
