Panerai 233 stopped working...again

My Panerai 233 (year 2010) stopped working last year and I took it for a full service. It came back working fine. I don’t wear it often as I think the movement is a bit fragile but do wind it regularly. Went to wind it and wear it today. Fully wound and it is not working. The warranty from the service ran out two weeks ago.
I spoke with Panerai boutique on Bond St and will take it there for them to look at. Not happy that the movement has stopped working again after only a year of having a full service. I trust Panerai will fix this issue with no cost to me.

Weird, yet these things happen. Over the years have had a few clunkers from other brands while the PAM runs strong and reliable. Am sure they'll fix it under warranty.

Came back from the Boutique and they will cover the cost of repair and honour the warranty even though it had expired two weeks ago. Nice service. They have given me a loaner watch as well as d I got to try on a few watches.

Am now wondering about trading the 233 for the Panerai Submersible 1389. Have had my eye on it for a while and don’t really wear the 233 that much. Only a handful of times since I had it serviced a year ago.
Would have to put some money towards it but what do people reckon?

Yes I have other watches but 233 is my only Panerai. Have a Deepsea and a Hulk, sub 16610 and a few seikos.
What is your standpoint on keeping the 233. Is yours a daily wearer? I find that I choose other watches to wear before I choose the 233 and although I do like it I don’t get as much wear as I think the movement is a bit fragile.

I think the 233 is pretty unique in complications and the first in-house movement by Panerai. Add to that the vintage dome crystal and I just can’t see me selling it. Mine is also the very first year dot dial as well. I’ve had it 3 years and for 2 it was my daily.
With your other divers, the 233 is unique.

This is a good point. It seems I am partial to a diver. I am on the list for a BLNR and am patiently waiting for that call. I think for me and my lifestyle I would get more wear out of the submersible then I do out of the 233.

Yes I wear it on a green Rubber B. Just a bit disappointed that the same issue happened twice in a year after getting fixed. Rather then get rid of the 233 it is best to eventually add the 1389. The 233 adds a bit of variation to the collection and although I don’t wear it often I do like it.

The 1389 is a totally different watch and a great one at that. Like most Panerai's it is a strap monster. I have always liked the 233 but over the years it is consistent in having movement issues. I know several owner who just gave up and moved on. It does not appear to work for you as well as in the past so move it. Get the 1389 and wear it more. Simple.

I am thinking about trading it only because I don’t wear it as much as my other watches and think I would wear the submersible more

Sorry to hear of your repeated troubles, OP. As a fellow 233 owner, I have nothing but great things to say about the watch. There is no other pam quite like it. That 1950s 44mm case and super dome make for an outstanding combo.

Honoring the recently expired warranty AND handing you a loaner watch is something I think very few - if any - other brands would do. Classy customer service by pam.

It’s funny that you posted this because my 233 also was serviced last year. It just stopped working this week, with about three weeks left on the one-year warranty. Exact same problem that happened last time, that it stops with one quarter to third left on power reserve.
