GMT MÁSTER 16710 Serviced
Just got my 16710 from service 3 days ago, the watch is loosing 4 seconds a day, should I come back to my AD? Before inspection was 7 seconds fast.

Give it a few weeks for the movement to settle in after the service.

I think the wonky answer is no, since COSC standards stipulate -4 to +6 seconds per day, so technically your watch was out of spec previously and is now within. I'd be a little disappointed, too, though, to get a watch back from service and have it be right on the margins like that.
All that would really be needed here (unless I'm confused) is a slight regulation and then redoing a pressure test. Maybe the AD has an in-house watchmaker who could handle that (free of charge)? |

Personally, I prefer to have my watches a few seconds fast rather than slow. Regulation is a simple and quick operation that your watchmaker can sort in a short time.

Many things effect mechanical watches Gravity affects mechanical watches the most thats why they are tested in 5 different positions. And in those different positions there will be slight deviations in the timekeeping.Remember this the escapement of a mechanical watch in 24 hours pushes the gears 432,000 times and a day has 86,400 seconds. Given the fact that the movement is constantly affected by the earth's gravity, metal expansion and contraction, mainspring power-reserve, temperature variations, subtle changes in lubrication and friction, shocks, and so on.The fact is that no mechanical watch made will keep perfect time, very close yes but perfect no.The COSC spec is a average of -4 to +6 over 24 hours so your watch is running to spec and may need a few weeks to adjust to your wearing habits.Have you ever given your watch a full manual wind say 40 full crown turn clock wise.?Because when wearing with low activity you are not winding your watch enough that could have a effect on over all timekeeping.

The bare uncased movements are still tested at the Swiss COSC to a Average of -4+6 seconds to get the Swiss chronometer certification.Rolex further test movements in there cases many many at a time in a controlled machine test environment, movement could meet the new marketing spec at time of testing. But on the owners wrist there are many many variables to overcome that differ to the test in controlled environment factory test so could be slightly different.

I wouldn't bother at -4. Still within specs. the 3185 is not spec'd to run -2/+2 like the new movements. Honestly when I set it, I would just set at 40 seconds fast, by end of day 10 it will be spot on, and after day 20 you'll be -40. Then just set 40 seconds fast again. Half the fun for me with these things is setting the time and syncing to atomic time.

I had the same thing with the same watch....after service loosing about 4 secs.....waited a couple months ....no better was told that it should be in keeping with new chronometer plus minus 2 Irrespective of the original minus 4 plus 6 thing so the adjusted it.....now its spot on.....i wouldn't wait more than a couple of days for It to settle down its Just wishful thinking

When not wearing your watch, just rest it with the dial facing upward every time. Do this for several days, and check the accuracy each day. If it improves slightly from -4 seconds/day then I wouldn't worry about accuracy, your watch is fine.

4 seconds per day "off" on the wrist is just fine with me. If you fall into the trap of daily checking and having adjusted, the watch is no longer fun to have - rather a burden.

My 16710 was serviced last October. It's running +4spd. Be patient. It will settle down.
