I spent one year in order to answer that question. Tried everything Rolex makes and came to the conclusion shown bellow.

Sky-dweller is in the classical watch category, along with datejust and day date. I would say 114060 or Daytona with white dial.

After trying 6-7 different models my choice is the Explorer 1!

Sub looses points due to the ceramic bezel, in my books. I was always scared I might break it if I abuse the watch. With the E1 that fear is gone.

The sub is the best sports watch. Not just from Rolex, but any manufacturer. Hands down.

It cannot be the Daytona, ever, objectively speaking. The screw down pushers make it impractical for timing, the polished surfaces are simply scratch magnets, lack of adjustability in the clasp is a hinderance for true adventures etc. etc.

The sub is more or less perfect for any sport event. Legible. Bold. Comfortable. Adjustable. Brushed, waterproof, on-the-fly timing with the bezel etc.

I guess it depends on what type of sport. For backpacking/hiking I prefer this. Tough, legible, waterproof, with a gmt hand that I use as a compass!

It will be accompanying me the 73 miles over the Sierra Nevada on the High Sierra Trail next month.

As an owner of a 116500 white dial, I actually disagree with you.

The best sports watch needs a chronograph or timer, but also needs water resistance.

The patek aqua chronograph is IMO the ultimate, followed by a No date sub.

But the Daytona is an elite watch no doubt. The ultimate driving watch maybe!

Have to say tough the blue sky is a very close second. Perfect with a suit, a little less sporty, but a favorite of the ladies ;)

Here some photos to spice up the thread...

This. The black Sub is the best all-around sports watch IMO. I have the white Daytona ceramic, and while it is very nice it is over hyped due to social media and its influencers. That'll be controversial but it's my opinion. I'll take the Submariner over the Daytona.
