Ditch desirable SS pieces for PM pieces?

Hi everyone. Need to run past ideas off you fine members and WIS. In my 30s I've had all Panerai. In my 40s I've had all Rolex.

Currently have 16610LV, 16710, 116520, after gifting Exp1 to my son and 16600 hijacked by my brother.

I'm closer to 50 now and been contemplating a drastic change, exit pieces if you will. It won't happen overnight but would love to hear your thoughts and/or lessons learned or similar experience.

2-3 watch rotation is optimal for me, wrist size just under 6.5", work attire is business casual, otherwise shorts and t-shirt kind of guy.

1. Platinum 36MM DD 118206 glacier dial, Patek 5146G grey dial, Lange RG 1815 chrono black dial. One minor concern, while all 3 are my personal grail pieces and would make an awesome trio, perhaps too dressy an option?..

2. Alternatively, keep 16610LV and 16710 to continue as my daily wearers and trade 116520 for PP 5170G white dial, my Ultimate Grail, for dressier occasions.

Would love to hear your thoughts/inputs. Would go grey dealer route for either option. Thanks and Cheers

What I love about my 5146G is how versatile it is, I wear it casually and more dressed up. Love the classic proportions of the dial and feel like for Patek, it’s a value.

Not a great photo, but if it helps...

Number 2. Selling 5 digit LV and GMT is a bad idea.

Option 2 is more practical and will most likely see you wearing the watches in rotation regularly, although I can see the DD in Option 1 being a nice daily.

I like option one the best....you have a great wrist for the 36mm day date, it would be a luxurious but wear.

Option 2 because I think you’re at that point in the collecting journey where you deserve to have your ultimate grail.

You need to add a vintage option in there.

There’s nothing like wearing vintage pieces - ESPECIALLY Rolex. It is an entirely different world.

I don’t like either of your options honestly . If you can stretch the finances a little, I like option one plus keep one of your SS Rolex. I think you should have one SS Rolex in your collection.

Sounds like 5146g and 118206 may be a good alternative, plus the LV and GMT.

To be honest and if I was to treat the watch market as a share market I would be liquidating right now.

Its a bubble and this is the second peak we are seeing. Every single damn piece is at all time highs SS/TT/PM doesnt matter and when each and every model is being hoarded you know there is a serious issue. Every model cant be rare or collectible from a brand that creates 1M+ watches per year and has done so for decades.

Not a good time to buy but a perfect time to sell imho. I'm thinking of selling off my remaining 4 x SS pieces soon as well.

The 118206 is a bang for the back, relatively speaking.

Is that a 5513? I had a 1967 MF 5513 and I still regret selling it and the 1675 too.

Happy to help. My journey is a bit backwards. I had my dad and grandfather’s Datejusts and those held me over until I could get my Daydate grail. The DD40 ended up being too heavy for me to wear comfortably so I traded it for a Hulk, Wimbledon, and Root Beer. In many ways I’m now going on the journey I should’ve had from the beginning.

Thank you. I thought of that too but I've found that a 3 watch rotation is my sweet spot.

I love option 1 and don’t think it is too dressy. You’d just have to be comfortable with the DD as a daily IMO.

Great choices either way though- I look forward to the incoming(s)!

Glad to have owned and throughly enjoyed my 5513, 1680 and 1675 and while I continue to admire vintage pieces I think I'm ready for the next phase of my watch journey
