As an owner of a Z-serial 16710, I’d say, don’t do it. The watch is nice but it’s overrated. The bracelet doesn’t have micro adjustments and the clasp is flimsy and cheap. Other than being thin, it’s not offering you anything unique.

The 16710 is only ever going up and if it’s a really good seller with physical store, 16710 full set in excellent condition then go for it. Go in say 5000 euro and maybe he’ll go 5250. Always worth a final squeeze. But you may have lost your chance as when you walk in he’ll know your mind is made up. Should have done it then and there to be fair when you were there. You won’t go wrong with the 16710

I think whether it is “overrated” is highly subjective. Additionally, fwiw I prefer the non-sel bracelets on 5 digits as it gives me a better fit and to me is more comfortable. With regard to microadjustments, If your oyster clasp doesn’t have any then it might be a fake - to my knowledge, they all do.

No way far to expensive the 16710 made in there hundreds of thousands and plenty on the market.

You’re technically right about the micro adjustments. It just requires a tool or a small diameter paper clip to fit into the holes. It’s just not the easy micro adjustments I was referring to that current 6 digit Rolex’s have .

Micro adjustments on the current are more difficult as they require internal clasp access. There is the easy link though.

Panerai 000 is one of my favorites regardless of brand. Simple, beautiful, no nonsense. Would be hard for me to let it go.

Agreed...especially if you don't wear the other watches often, and if you'd wear the heck out of the Pepsi.

I'd say no simply because I don't like the crown of the 16710. Once one has handled a modern Rolex, it makes the crown (and watch) feel very unsubstantial. Good luck. Post pics.

As we completed the deal in the afternoon I didn't had much chance to take nice picture in daylight.

The price was a big pill to swallow but considering:

- The watch condition and complete set B&P

- The fact that the movement was serviced 2 years ago

- The local F/F deal, no wait, no risks for shipping my watches

- Moving two of my old watches at the same time (PAM was hardly worn, the BB GMT was worn regularly before the movement replacement)

- The 16710 for me personally has more character than the modern BLRO. The new is technically better in every way but does not sing to me.

So all in all, a dream of mine has come true! The watch looks and feels fantastic on the wrist - I have no issues with the old bracelet and claps - I own the 14060m, 16570, and now the 16710. I will definitely get the black and coke bezels.

As the watch is 15 years old the bezel has begun to fade slightly IMO. I will make better pictures later on.

Thanks to all who 'went through' this experience with me. I am off enjoying the watch!

Just for reference, I purchased a 16710N (black bezel insert) in June from a dealer I'd had a great experience with in 1997 (purchased an excellent pre-owned 1675).

I paid US$12,500 for the 16710N and am very pleased with the deal. It's a P-serial with box and papers, and came with an additional correct Rolex pepsi bezel insert.

If you are trading with a casual seller or friend I would not do the deal.

However, if you are dealing with an established seller who will stand behind the watch I don't have a problem with it.

Many on this forum profess to look at trades as a no profit for the seller/cost for the buyer proposition. For me, I think that is naive and I wonder how many times they have successfully traded their watch to an established seller and gotten full retail value for their watch. Call me skeptical.

An established seller has to make a profit on the sale and the resale. Period. End of story. They invest the time and money in maintaining the business and earning a reputation. And they must make a profit or they are out of business.

That is why used car values have several different numbers - trade in, private sale, and retail at a dealer. And when you go to the grocery store, you don't pay the same price for food that the grocer gets his inventory for. Watches are no different.

Established sellers are in this for a living. If they gave you full retail on a trade and the resold it for the same amount and also stood behind the watch they would loose money. Why in the world would they do that? Short answer is they won't. So for and established seller, the trade value is not the same as what they can sell it for.

Yes, you can try to sell your watches on eBay or some other venue and if you don't get stung maybe get more for your watches. If this works for you, great. But that is not my cup of tea.

Add to that, what you want is a classic higher end sports model that commands a premium. What your are wanting to trade are nice watches but not in the same ballpark, and they are not as easy to sell or trade.

So, if you want the GMT and the seller is an established trusted seller, negotiate your best deal and go for it.
