How come the 16570 is not extremely popular?
Hello guys,
So after having and sold 16610 and 114270 I finally received my 16570 polar which I am incredibly happy with. In fact, I am so happy that I am trying to understand how come they were the ugly duck until very recently. The white dial (on my polar) is extremely clear and none reflective, compared to my Explorer and sub that were VERY reflective. It was really hard to actually see the color of the dial with those. With the EXPii it's very clear to see this white color. The case is very thin and incredibly comfortable on the wrist, more than my 16610 ever was. The movement is a GMT movement with the ability to move only the hour hand (what a great feature that I wish every watch had!) The bezel while being fixed- has one of the prettiest sunburst effects I have ever seen. Makes it somewhat dressy IMHO. The black lacquer on all of the components of the dial is incredibly legible and gorgeously applied. I can literally not understand what's the deal with that watch. How come it’s not as common as a sub? I am so impressed and happy with my polar... this watch is not going anywhere. Never. Thanks for listening! |

The 5 digit Explorer II's time will come. Don't you worry about that.

Glad to see you recognize the merits of your watch. You don’t need the rest of the world to do the same for you to enjoy your watch.

The Explorer II is way underrated, probably because it originally started out as a watch for cave explorers (very niche).

are you kidding me? both the black and polar are selling for crazy prices now. Add an extra 2k premium for the over-hyped 3186. I'll keep my 31x5 movements.

I’m glad I got mines two years ago before the hype starts. 2021 50th anniversary coming real fast.

I was offered the white dial today, on the fence still if I’m taking it. I only have one white dial watch at the moment SS Sky. I’m on the hunt for the white dial Milgauss. I did like the white and orange combo and the GTM feature, with a orange strap it would look sharp! Is the white less or more common then the black?

I picked one up this year. Black dial with holes and SEL. Mine is unpolished and had never been opened. I overlooked these for years in my ravenous hunt for vintage subs and GMTs. IMHO after having almost all modern and vintage Rolex references? I think the 16570 is about the best daily wear out there. It’s basically a 16710 with a steel bezel. Bomb proof. No silly Pepsi bezel to flop around. Thin case. Sapphire crystal . Probably my most comfy watch on the 78790SEL. Best vintage Rolex value proposition at 5-6k. |

I sold one a while ago for 5k, that was a mistake. I really enjoy that watch, and they are on the steady climb. I think it’s an incredibly hard watch to beat. It wears well, and the price is still fairly reasonable if you stay away from the 3186 absurd premium.

I have a black (tritium) and white (Swiss-only) faced one. They are great to mix and match when dressing for the day.
I prefer mine in leather straps; bracelets can stay in the box. Enjoy yours in good health! |

I had a polar 16570 and it was very good but ended up moving on in a trade. I also had the 216570 and same deal. I have considered getting another. Good watch, good value (for now).

Previously not as popular due to its very specialized purpose and its more glamorous sibling the GMT. It was a considered a good value. Now it's the up-and-coming 5 digit collectible.

Popular or not, I appreciate the pair I have. The black dial one is 3186. They fit my wrist the best and looks great on rubber or leather strap.

I sold mine earlier in the year, missed it and bought another one a few months later. Want to keep this one. The 40mm size is quite good and the watch has both a classic and sport look to it, so can worn all occasions.

i bought my first Rolex, which was the Exp2 polar in 1999-2000 for $4k. Today, a good unpolished full set polar goes for $7k-$8k
You could say i could have made more money investing the stock market, but at least I got to use my Exp2 for 20 years and still made some money (or at the very least didn't lose money) The watch is awesome |

I think to the non-TRF masses, a white dial prof series Rolex (except Daytona) will always be less popular ... but for the WIS / TRFers, the polar 16570 is well-loved. Personally I am happy to own and enjoy an under-hyped Rolex .

I feel like they are already getting popular. only like 2 years ago you could find a really nice example with box and papers for 3k online. No way that deal exists now
