1601 replacement dial prices

Hey guys, been thinking of getting a replacement dial for my 1601 as I would prefer a sliver one. I’ve located a mint dial on chrono but the seller is asking 575$ USD and my watch maker said it’s way to high. So with that said...

What are you going rates for a mint Rolex 1601 dial or what would be a fair price for a mint silver dial?

Honestly it’s a bit high, but these dials aren’t all that plentiful anymore and the value of these old watches and parts are steadily climbing. Finding perfect dials is tough, I imagine you’ll end up spending $400-500 tbh.

Are there other MINT dials readily available? If so, what are the prices?

If there aren't any others available, then a reasonable price is what you are willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept...

I just provided a link for one for $377 obo with $45 shipping. So no I wouldn’t pay $500. Depends on how long you’re willing to wait. You could get lucky and snag one for $200 on eBay if you waited and looked often. Or you can pay $500 and get one today. I personally wouldn’t pay over $250 for a silver dial just because it’s the most common DJ dial out there and they pop up fairly regularly.



Only silver dial I have, the Lume is missing at 3, otherwise excellent. I’d let it go for $175. Most of these dials are crazy prices though.

Thank you for the link, would the fact that the dial is two tone affect pricing that much? The link you sent is in comparable shape to the one I’m asking about but mine has the large 6 and 9 markers and the marker are 14k

Are they YG? Dials with gold markers generally command less than their steel counterparts

Just depends on how quickly and bad you want it. I would explain the situation. “I like this dial, but I have found comparable ones for nearly half the price. Granted not exactly what I wanted and if we could get closer to the price of some of the others I’d be happy to do business.”


You would be surprised how much some of these sellers come down.

Thank you for the links, the second link is the most appealing to me, almost what I am looking for. The first link was definitely a redial job and the third one was nice as well. Im defiantly keep looking. Im planning to send my 1601 off to either rolliworks or LAWW for a case restoration

If your watch is not a 2 tone, avoid yellow gold markers.

Another option is to get a service dial from rolex. They still make them for the 1601.

Interesting. How do you know that to be true? I was recently told by a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account that RSC no longer services and have no parts for Vintage DJ 1601 and 1603 variants.

I like wideboy dials too - but factor this into your pricing equation...you would need to buy the matching wideboy handset to have a proper look.

To clarify, that’s not a wideboy dial even though ad says it is. And you’re right about finding hands. Very tough.

That’s an interesting suggestion. I think the only way for me to get a service dial from Rolex is through a service which I don’t want to do. If you know away to get definitely let me know haha

Umm... because last November rsc restored my 1601 and put in a new dial.

They don't sell them separately. Only available at the time of an rsc service.

Yes that is true but when RSC does that they keep your old dial. My current dial is fine, I just want to switch it up a bit, plus a dial from RSC will cost way more, due to the service cost, than any dial on currently on eBay.

True, but then you would have a watch with all now factory internals keeping cosc time if that matter to you.

You could also buy a garbage dial on ebay and send that in for rolex to confiscate ;) they would work on it even if the hands are missing.

I guess you have a point there with the garbage dial, but I just got the watch serviced last year so I’m good for another 5ish years. In the meantime I’ll think about the rsc option, but RolliWorks is also very appealing
