Explorer ii Box

I purchased a 1999-2000 Explorer II box / booklet set on Ebay and the leather wooden box I received is totally different from the image in the listing. Does this look uber fake or just the wrong box for the1999-2000 year? The padding on top is non existent, the leather on top moves around when you touch. Back story is I purchased a 2000 Explorer II on Crown & Caliber with papers only, no box, so I am sourcing the box and booklets.

THIS IS THE LISTING I PURCHASED, see box looks different that what I received.

It doesn't fit the outer. Not the best sign.. Have you contacted the seller, 'wtf is this?'?

How’s the interior? Looks like an older box; my 1995 S serial 16610 Sub has a similar box ( bought new at AD)

Interior wood grain doesn't look right. I've looked at a handful of 1999-2000 16570 boxes on YouTube and Chrono 24 and they all seem to have a puffier leather top, more matte green leather, and where the wood meets the exterior leather on the inside, the wood should be recessed down a bit, not flush like the one I received. And the cloth seems to have a “chemicals” smell to it.

Holder below the one I received.

Pic below: Holders I’ve seen for the 1999-2000 year seem to have a round top center with “ROLEX” and the Crown.

I’ll check my Exp II box, it’s a P serial and box looks like that from memory but fits perfectly in the outer.

Any printing on the underside of the box?
I assume that your third photo, (titled 2 of 11), ie with inner and outer box is in fact the photo that was advertised.
In that case are we only looking to assess the box as per your first photo?

Printing is the bottom of the box I received. Yep, the image in first post ( 2 of 11) is the box advertised and was assuming that was what i was receiving and the correct box for 1999-2000 year for Explorer II from my previous research.

Both boxes are fine they just don't belong together.

The box looks genuine, as mentioned above doesn’t match exterior box but that does not necessarly makes it a fake

Got it! I asked seller to send me correct wooden box for the 1999-2000 year, The booklets and tags I received seem to be correct. What box number should I look out for on the bottom for the 1999-2000 year?

Back story is I purchased a 2000 "SWISS ONLY" Explorer II on Crown & Caliber with paper sonly, no box so I am trying to source the box and booklets. OCD

Thanks Joan!

What year is your Rolex? Mines a 2000 “A” serial number. Should I be on the lookout for 68.00.55 on the bottom of the box?

Our older rolexes (early 2000s) came with those boxes, but the outer/inner fit perfectly.
As mentioned above, both look ok to me (well, don't trust my judgement, not an expert by any means), but they shoudl fit right.

If it’s fake, someone went to an awful lot of trouble.

Are fake Rolex boxes really a thing? Seems like an awful lot of work without a clear payoff.

I think the .22 code might be more in line with A serial whereas .55 is more 2001. But since ADs grabbed a box when the watch was sold I don’t think it matters much.
