If you believe you detected any other intention in my initial post, I‘m afraid to say you might be reading more into it than I was trying to say. Let me assure you that I certainly did not mean to trash a Rolex model I have worn daily for 8 years and love dearly (albeit in black). It’s just the Pepsi colorway that wasn’t for me and I hope you can afford me the freedom to hold that - very personal - view.

Good for you! Stand your ground! Congrats on your new purchase and wear it in the best of health!

I did the opposite. Traded away the BLRO and missed it after an hour. Now it is back and I am soooo happy...

I love the GMT. I love the history - Magnum, Pan Am and everything. If I were to pick one watch to wear for the rest of my life this is it. Being apart for a while made me realize this.

I would say dont lose hope with the BLRO. The 16710 ref is a tad older but I found it to be perfect. The new pepsi bezel just lacks good colors, the lugs are too big, jubilee is too feminine for SS models, and to top it off maxi dial is a tad too obnoxious. The 16710 fixes all of this plus you can switch between coke, pepsi, and black.

Overall good on you for getting what you want.

And with the knowledge in the back of my head that it was essentially irreplaceable, wearing it felt super awkward too. As a result, it went into the safe pretty much from day one, saw no wear whatsoever and what little connection the anticipation had fostered evaporated.

So today, I took the plunge, put some money on top of it and exchanged it for a watch I had been attracted to more genuinely, one which is readily available and no hype at all.

And it feels awesome.

Just as a cautionary tale, the hype has inflated our perception of certain of these watches so significantly, that we all run to the same models, as if there were nothing else. But what you’ll truly and deeply enjoy will never be a function of popular preference and groupthink. And turning one‘s back to the instatrends is easier as I thought.

Stay safe everyone, may your wrists always make you smile, no matter the soda you may associate with it.

That must be hard to remember that you may never see this watch again , I am sure you can get the lange anytime

Congrats on your Lange! We all know what hype is around here, that's for sure. I stood in line to see and try on the Blro at its first AD showing in early '18 and was surprised by being underwheled by the colors and bracelet once I tried it on my wrist Different strokes to say the least. In Oct '18 my AD offered up a Blnr. Bingo..More my style, on my wrist now and never looked back. However the pepsi itch not being cured led me to finding the right 16710 which has become my favorite Rolex in my collection of seven. Enjoy your new Lange!!...

*I did, however, feel the need to write a post and lump all others collectors in with my subjective experience

I bet so. I love my Lange but the Pepsi is a keeper for life for me just like a sub.

Nice one

I still don’t get the moral of this story and the support for this behavior. So basically the OP bought a watch that he doesn’t like much and many of us dream of getting it from AD just to Flip it to get the watch he wants.

OP, glad you were able to get over the hype and sell the piece you fell out of love with and buy another that you like better.

For me, I fell in love with Pepsi back in early 80s when I was a teenager...

then I wanted to buy one from the AD back in 2000 (just sitting there behind the same window for many months looking at me pass by), but my wife said it was too sporty...

then wanted to buy one back in 2007 again, and ended up getting the bluesy (did I say never take your wife watch shopping with you? well, don't)......

then I didn't want to buy a used one and new ones were nowhere to be found ...

then I found a used one for a great price and bought one finally... that was like a few short years ago...

then I REALLY loved and wanted the 116719 BLRO but sadly my bank account and other priorities didn't...

then when the 116710 came out... boy, did I want it (and my bank account agreed, but the wife didn't....)

... so when a couple of weekends ago I finally landed the BLRO from my AD at MSRP, I was ecstatic and still am.

If you are still reading this... moral of the story is, don't buy a watch on hype, and definitely don't take your wife watch shopping with you! :)

Can't believe people were getting upset over someone's opinion who actually owned the watch and got rid of it for the reasons they stated.

If we all had the same opinions there would be nothing to talk about and life would be very boring.

If we can't handle someone saying they think a certain watch is childish then there are bigger problems than the opinion. We're meant to be adults.

+1. Bunch of judgmental a-holes here.

To each their own. These are common watches. Not museum pieces that are irreplaceable. I buy to wear and wear I do. None of my pieces are safequeens.
Dont really understand the practice of buying a watch to put in the safe. You are much better off buying stocks or real estate for that purpuse.
