White coloured gasket on twinlock crown???

The other day I noticed that the gasket on one of my new Rolexes was visible whilst adjusting the time. It is a twinlock, not triplock, so it is the gasket that is situated inside the crown. It was white in colour, and slipped nicely back into the crown when screwing it back towards the case.

I realise that the gasket itself performs its function when securing the crown towards the case (it do not need to be fixed in the crown), but I have never thought about any other colour than black for the gaskets (not counting the white crystal gasket).

Has this always been the case, or is it a new type of gasket on later models?

(The watch is a very late M-serial, sold in December by an AD, and is marked "May 2008" (PJ5) on the bracelet - so it is fairly "fresh from the factory").

(Have to find an older crown to check when I have an opportunity.)

It is a newer type of washer/gasket fitted to the monobloc winding crowns on later models. Both types provide exactly the same protection but, as with many other components new materials are used over the life of a design.

As a "user" you rarely see the crown gasket. Personally I've only seen it on older crowns, as they have been replaced.
