My first Rolex! - ref.6429 COMMANDO

Wasn’t in love with the aftermarket bracelet that it came with so a nato OD green Strap from craft and tailored is on the way!

I like that model and congrats. But a couple of clarifications...

The actual Commando script came on models sold by A&F.

I suppose PX’s may have had some but not an exclusive.

All said, it’s a nice model to get.

Either way it’s a good place to start. When you get it opened for authentication (yes, don’t trust the seller ) you should know if the right caseback is on it and all is correct inside.

Sometimes a surprise is waiting inside. It should be a manual wind.

Already been opened! Is a manual wind and watch was given to my father by my godfather who bought it from a Vietnam vet in the 70s (which further supports my research) has sat in a draw since until last week when my father gave it to me!

That’s a great backstory - I thought you might have bought it from a dealer.

It’s not a bad idea to be on the lookout for donor movements for their parts. I’ve had to do that for my Dad’s old Omega to rebuild and refit the original movement once already. The parts are no longer being made.

Almost anything can be fabricated by a master watchmaker, but costly due to the hours of work involved.
