If...
****** IF ******
Note the emphasis on the IF please.... IF AP were to entertain a commission on a bespoke, custom design, limited in numbers, then who would seriously COMMIT? Let’s also assume that it wouldn’t be ‘design by committee’, but an opportunity to have a very special model for our, yet to be defined, special group? Please don’t get too prematurely excited. THIS IS ENTIRELY HYPOTHETICAL. I hope you appreciate that there is NO way to ask this question with specifics, and thus if you answer with a ‘yes, but as long as it’s a ....’ then I’m going to ignore your answer. This question simply seeks to establish whether a possible working group may be worth while putting together. p.s. Let’s for the sake of this question also assume that to participate in such a group that you would have to sign a contract with the group, legally enforceable, that if you wanted to sell the watch within 3 years, that it would HAVE to be offered back to the group at the price paid. (That will discourage anyone wanting to get in on a quick flip). |

But this is a never ending question/answer loop, so for now the question is as the question is. |

QUESTION RETRACTED.
Forget that I ever asked. It’s too vague of a question, I should have thought first. I shall pose the question, fully parsed and with some ‘specifics’ at a later date. |

LOL I feel like this is just like one of my work meetings with my team where I think I have this great idea, and then they tear it to shreds with all of these hypothetical questions and I just say “fine, we’ll keep things how they are”
In all seriousness with something like this, I’d be very interested (and humbled) but I’m going to break your rule and say “but only if”. And for me, I’d need to know the size of the watch. For those unfortunate people like myself with small wrists, size DOES matter and no matter how beautiful the watch is, I wouldn’t be happy if it isn’t wearable.

Yep... size and style being key factors to confirming interest.

Generally yes, but of course size of the committee (even if not on the committee) would be for me a deciding factor. Having to satisfy 20 people probably leads to an ugly design having to satisfy so many people, smaller committee the better.
FWIW, I think AP used to do custom orders for small batches before things got crazy hot for the brand. I would also assume hypothetically that they would preclude ceramic as part of the materials. To Chiscott, you can always settle for an uber expensive desk clock if it turns out to be too big to wear. |

Also, totally against the rules, but would be epic to have in house chrono, RO 41 case in ceramic, back to balanced sub dials instead of the two large sub dials.
OR Take that Code skeleton chrono with tourbillion, throw into RO case. One can dream right? |

The concept is intriguing Gary for sure and I’d imagine it would be easier to find people to participate than it would be to get AP to do it (but what do I know). Assuming it would be done in great taste it would be reasonably easy to narrow down the basics to get a general commitment - say 38/39mm or 42/44mm would rule out/in some straight away. Steel bracelet or rubber again I’d imagine would rule some in, others out. Chrono or 3 hander etc etc.
From there the detail follows. I’ll commit now if I can have 002 - happy to let you have 001 :-) |

007 sounds nice though, but there’s no way I could begin to herd enough people to get to three digits, so 01, 02, would be more appropriate. Again though, I spoke too soon. And of course AP is the hurdle, not us. I shall explore on my own, although not until the summer, but the good news is that if it is to be a NO, it’ll be a quick NO. |

I think Conkers mooted a similar proposition a year or so ago?

WatchProsite actually made this happen about 12 years ago with AP. It was a limited run of ‘special edition’ jumbos. I think the bracelet links were in titanium and there was a custom rotor.

There’s no question that AP have done ‘specials’ and still do. The real question is will they entertain ‘me’ asking for a run of 30 of something? That’s a rhetorical question, none of you can answer that, it’s only a question that can be answered by asking the question directly. However, AP won’t be slow with a NO if there’s no hope. I shall ask the question but not until summer once some semblance of normality resumes, there’s no point trying to play a game when all the cards are stacked against you.

One thing is for sure, there’s no way AP is making a ‘special’ for the rolex forum :)

and for those reasons this project, if it ever got off the ground, would move at the speed of a glacier.
