I am about ready to pull the trigger on my next watch. Primary criteria – rose gold, white face, folding clasp, budget. I am 99.9% dialed in on the IWC Portofino IW391025, however the Cellini Time 50505 is also up for consideration. Neither watch comes with a folding clasp, but IWC has one listed specifically for the Portofino and my Rolex AD said they can get me the clasp from the Moonphase. The Rolex clasp is stomp your wiener in the dirt expensive, but with the discount they offered on the timepiece the end result will be very close watch to watch – (watch plus clasp).

While the Cellini doesn’t get a ton of love I do like it. Clean, simple, elegant but not in your face. Trustworthy, in house, but otherwise non-descript movement. Which is really my problem with the IWC. Given the two I prefer the aesthetics and chrono function of the IWC, but as best I can tell the movement is a reworked 7750/SW500, which can be found on millions of watches at 1/10th the price. Maybe that should bother me, but it does a little, .1% given my opening position.

Take a look at the Cellini Moonphase. It has the deployant clasp you're looking for, and blows both of these away.

I had the opportunity to see a Cellini Moon-phase at my AD recently and it was stunning. The moon is real meteorite and it had a deployment clasp, I'd see if a local AD has one you can look at!

My preference would be the Cellini 100 times out of 100. Cellini does fly a bit under the radar if that matters to you. I bought platinum Celliniums, (Cellinia?), for myself and my wife, hers with MOP dial. They definitely don't get noticed much, but maybe that's not a bad thing.

I am partial to IWC.

I grew up longing for them. They have some great designs that really speak to me. I can wear them well too, since I have a wide wrist.

If you are going for a true dress watch. The Cellini would be the better choice.

If you’re going for a “dressy” watch. You get way more watch for the money with the IWC.

Between these two IWC. Even if you consider Rolex moonphase as some suggested I would go for a similar IWC in house as it's higher horology, finish, recognition and history than Rolex in non sports models.

I owned a moon phase prior, really liked it a great deal. I even made the statement “I’ll never sell this one.” Yeah right, heard that before. Traded on something else. It’s not completely off the table right now, but I had somewhat limited myself to $15k-$16k range. The plain Cellini Time and the IWC I can pull off for that.

Great point. I think I am going for “dressy” over proper dress watch. I am a fairly informal type. Business casual, usually sleeves when not a million percent hot and humid.

IWC. To me, that Cellini is busy in the wrong places. Too many 'flutes on the bezel' and the numbers on the dial do not make sense. Even if you can read them, why would you need to? But as always, go with what feels right.
