Demand. I passed on the prior BLNR as it was too similar to my Sub, but jumped when offered a BLRO. The red and blue bezel coupled with the jubilee bracelet made it different enough. Both are great though.

Kermit, Hulk, Smurf, etc... I just find it all very indicative of the "dumbing-down" of the brand that's sadly happened in recent years. |

As others have said - a combination of history and hype. In the case of the BLRO I'd say it's probably 50% history / 50% hype, whereas on others where we see disparities in market value - e.g. white vs black Daytona, blue vs all other Sky Dwellers - it's 100% hype and FOMO.

Perhaps they were fed up with the hustle and bustle. Or perhaps they have already fulfilled (satiated) and retired from watches. Now they go fishing together with their grandchildren, drinking a cold beer and talking about their watch loves, fascinations and failures, as well as about the friendships and wars they fought on this forum.

Mainly stayed away from social media but still keeps in touch with many of us. Some of these were outstanding watchmakers so they have their own circles and still working on watches. So much inside info about brands, movements, watch parts, etc that cant be repeated on a open forum.

Having owned both, I think they are both great watches. My BLRO is a forever watch. As far as hype.. the hype I remember as a kid -- was Magnum PI cruising around in "his" Ferrari wearing that sweet watch! I had a better chance of flying to the moon than owning the 1675.. I digress. It's demand and Tom Selleck's fault.

Understand all that, just curious if there was an online place to discuss more technical topics.

if you are a serious watch fan, you would realize very quickly that tiny differences in dial color, bezel, etc can make big difference in secondary price.
ex: AP RO in blue dial vs white. blnr vs blro price delta isnt that big tho, btw. it is at most 2-3k difference. for 2k more, id buy the reference i really want. not enough of a big diff for me to cheap out on a cheaper model. that being said, i own blnr and daytona C in black dial, which also is cheaper than daytona C in white. |

In the case of the BLRO I would say that it’s a combination of history and hype. But for the white Daytona imo it’s all hype.

There are 2 variations of the BLNR. The Batgirl looks like the Batman except for the fact the blue on the bezel is of a lighter shade and the bracelet is a jubilee instead of an oyster. So, there's a lot of both models on the market.
There is only 1 Pepsi ceramic variant, hence why the larger premium. It's obvious. |

IMHO, much of it has to do with the fact that the BLNR has been out for quite a few years during the BLRO’s absence. There was always a yearning among the watch community for Rolex to bring back the Pepsi in stainless steel and when the BLRO was introduced in 2018 it was a smashing success. Demand still is high.

pure hype. There are so many BLROs on the grey market, it's not a unicorn.

Demand or not, I love red and blue on a ceramic bezel... it's just so so sexy

Red/blue is a sportier looking color combo that better suits the vibe of the watch.

This. This hype word is way overused on this forum. At what point is something just regarded as better and therefore demands a premium? |
