Does anybody else hate it

Does anybody else hate it when......

People only use reference codes, for example

I have a 2017 yahchtmaster rose gold and chocolate, SS sub date 2018, TT yellow gold blue sub 2018, YG sub 2019, TT Daytona YG black diamond face 2021,and a WG grey dial Daytona oyster flex 2021

And I have not got a clue what any of the reference numbers are

You could easily just learn the reference numbers. What’s so hard about that? I would prefer everyone speak English around the world when I travel but that’s really my issue and obstacle to overcome and adapt.

Older Rolex aficionados use reference numbers as they really know their stuff. I just look them up and add them to chats when appropriate to make it look like I know my stuff.

I like the terms Pepsi, coke, Rootbeer, kermits, etc.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying. The shorthand makes sense if you're a dealer and work with this stuff for hours a day.

There was a time when this board used ref numbers instead of cartoon nicknames. The good old days.

I don’t care if people use reference numbers, model names, or nicknames. Whatever gets the point across.

It’s not about having to look up and google every time, the numbers are just nerdy, look at how clever I am, and as for learning them

This will allow you to convey any model to a dealer and still sound like a educated adult. I have field tested this method for over 30 years around the world.

Newest Black Ceramic Sub, Older Black Ceramic Sub, Blue two tone Sub, New BLNR, Old BLNR, BLRO, Black ceramic Daytona, White ceramic Daytona, new black Deep Sea, Black Deep Sea, Deep Sea Cameron, Sub LVC, etc......

Speaking in reference numbers allows us nerds to communicate faster. Nothing wrong with that. Think of the millions of forum hours saved by people not having to read "Rolex daytona ceramic" and just seeing 116500. I jest, a little, but I feel like enough of a nerd to know most references and it it easier for me.

Been fun for me learning the reference numbers from folks here. Not fond of nicknames in every case but I now recognize some of the numbers!

Reference numbers are the only way to be specific about the particular watch being discussed.

If you don't know a what a reference number means, use Google, e.g., "Rolex 1503."

Nicknames might work in many cases, but they're still fuzzy compared to reference numbers.

The easiest thing is to just grow up and get with the program

Yes, the cartoon nicknames can cease and desist at any time.

I know what you mean! I only joined this forum in summer 2019, and had a hard time at first getting to grips with the myriad of Rolex reference numbers. I only knew then that my Sub is a 14060 and the previous model a 5513. But I'm getting there...!

I remember when I first joined this forum and I was so confused with all the reference numbers, it was pretty confusing to me.

But now I absolutely love it when people can actually specify the exact reference number of a certain watch, especially with the name/description of the watch too.
