Datejust over polished?

Hello everyone, my datejust 116234 just returned from servicing by RSC NYC and I would greatly appreciate some help and advice.

I purchased the watch brand new in May 2019 and had it serviced because it was running slow and also requested to have some light scratches removed from the lugs only. This is the first time I've had the watch polished and when I inspected it, something looked off with the fluted bezel and crown on the clasp when I tried it on. Am I correct in thinking that the bezel and crown are over polished? I did some comparisons with other photos of unpolished datejusts and my untrained eyes is making it difficult for me to determine if it’s been properly polished. Thanks in advance for the help!

Would you happen to have baseline pictures we can compare to?

From the photographs you provided it is difficult to see anything unusual. From these photos it looks real nice. The flutes on the bezel are sharp, rolex crown looks good. It's from 2019 and unless you really abused the watch I can't imagine they needed to apply much polishing and you didn't mention that the case or bracelet had any defects to repair. Need macro shots to see close up.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it but I’m no expert.

Only real bad over polishing I’ve experienced is on older models , 5 digits etc it’s not so common on newer models.

Does it look polished? Yes. Would it put me off buying? No.

Surprised that Rolex even polished it, other than severe or noticeable scratches. My AD said the RSC suggests polishing no more than two times over 15 years or so.
For minor servicing, try to find a qualified Rolex watchmaker locally; they should be able to do most work on your watch, and will be more responsive to your requests.

By the way, the watch looks great, I have a similar model.

Looks fine to my untrained eyes just going on the photos! The fluted bezel and crown are nice and crisp...

Rolex does not polish the white gold fluted bezel. I say this from experience. It only cleans it.
I have a 32 year old Datejust with a white gold fluted bezel.

I'm curious as to why you questioned it? It looks like a nice watch!!!

Looks great.

Everyone, please stop drinking the polish cool-aid that is liberally supplied here at TRF and just enjoy the watches.

Your watch looks beautiful.

Coincidentally, I have the 116200 with a silver dial, but with oyster bracelet and smooth bezel. I bought mine 6 months ago from an AD. I scratched the case back and wanted to get it changed but RSC damaged it in the process. It now needs to be polished to remove the damage they made.

They have assured me that a case manager is overseeing it and will ensure their senior finisher will carry out the polish sympathetically in order to keep to keep the lines

Point I’m making, if it comes back looking like yours, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Enjoy it.

The watch is now worthless. Give it away or throw it in a lake!

Thanks! I guess I was being paranoid because this was my first time having a watch serviced.

Skilled polishing doesn't really remove a lot of metal—done well, it isn't obvious that the watch has been polished. It just looks good. That is a skilled polish job.

For a watch you just want to wear and enjoy, polishing isn't a bad thing at all when done by someone who is good at it.

Over polished is over-used.
