Datejust 126200 blue - worth the price?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy my first Rolex and saw this watch pop up on Timepiece Gentleman. It's $7k NIB. I don't know if this is a good price or not - is this way over retail?

It's also 36mm. I'm a guy with very thin wrists (to give context, an Apple Watch only fits close to my wrist if I use the narrowest hole on the band). Is a 36mm more of a ladies watch? My understanding is that subs are 39mm+, so 36mm seems small.

Would love thoughts on the linked watch.

Would be a solid choice for a first Rolex!

That being said, do it right the first time and get a watch because it is the one you want!

Do you really like the Datejust or is it just what’s available at a reasonable price?

Start off right ... Sub/Date or Sub .Any vintage .

Can ad the blue DJ as a second .Beautiful reference !

If you really like this particular DJ36, go with an AD and start building a purchase history...in case you’d want to get more in the future. Trust me, you would.

You should be able to order this model and maybe even a small discount if you’re lucky.

Will I be hard pressed to find this available at an AD? And if I'm ordering this, is it something that will usually come quickly or will the wait be a few years because I'm a new customer?

Also curious, is 7k over retail for this?

The DateJust line is a classic. It's second to none in the Rolex range in terms of history and heritage. Don't let anyone say different. That model is also a very good one watch collection if an adaptable model for use in multiple situations is important to you.

Btw, 36mm doesn't wear small on most wrists....you need to have quite large wrist for it to look too small. It's an all rounder hence more modest in size. I think it's a very refined and considered choice. Have to say, on the model you link to, I prefer it one the Jubilee....but thats just me (I don't like Oysters with PCL)

This is helpful. It looks like the watch I linked is pretty close to retail. How is the Grey market dealer making money?

With taxes retail might even be a bit more than what you see on TG but you might need to factor in shipping which might not be included. They are making money because they didn't buy it at retail and could be someone what wants to start an AD relationship and is willing to take a small loss for it.

I agree with building a relationship with an AD route. That’s not a hard model to get. You may have to wait a month or so if they don’t have it stock. As far as price goes, the TPG price is pretty much the same as the AD’s.

It’s a lovely watch, I know, it’s exactly what I have. Don’t be put off by the size, I went to my AD wanting the 41, but it was obscene on my wrist! The 36 fits perfectly on an average size wrist - it’s also a timeless design and true Rolex classic. I can’t comment on availability or prices in the States, but here in the UK I got mine straight from an AD at retail, without a wait - although some have said I was very lucky to achieve that!

I really only want one watch, and it's a 116500ln white dial. My plan isn't to buy 4-5 Rolexes, as I don't have hundreds of thousands to buy watches. Would rather put that money into a more dependable investment. I'm guessing they buying one 7k watch isn't going to net me the Daytona I'm looking for.

You can find the price on the Rolex site... but it looks like TG is selling it for $50 under retail. A deal!

If it’s not on the display case, they should be able to order it. I think retail is right around $7k. I agree, buying this watch for the sake of establishing a relationship in hopes that it would result in a Daytona in the near future is highly unlikely.
