226570 - Polar

Received the 226570 today. Long story short, I had wanted the previous version, my AD let me take a look at this one, it came home with me. I was concerned there might be a dial size difference. If the new one has a 0.5mm smaller diameter to make the 3285 work, it is not noticeable. I had been concerned about the pvd coated hands and plots, in the flesh it looks great. Long term, the 3285 is something I’ll pay attention to. I have not had it in hand long enough to do an accuracy test yet. The chromalight seems to start out a brighter green and shift to more blue after a few hours in the dark (see photos).

Awesome watch. 216570 owner here. Congratulations. I picked mine up in October and rarely leaves my wrist. I was on the fence about waiting for the new generation. But when the AD called I said yes. Hope to be able to A B them in person. I think the new hands and AR coating are probably an improvement. It will be interesting to see the new bracelet size and proportions, and thickness as I have heard this has changed too.

As someone else on this forum said: the explorer II is probably the least photogenic watch in the Rolex lineup. Looks so different (and so much better) in real life on your wrist. I got my 216570 polar last February, just before the release of the new model. I wanted the classic steel bezel for sure and was afraid Rolex would change it to a ceramic bezel. Fortunately, they did not. The explorer II polar is an awesome watch as it is. Also less recognized as a Rolex which attracts less unwanted attention.

When looking at the photos in this topic, and afterwards other photos of the new model, the date window seem shifted a bit more to the center in comparison to my 216570. Probably because the 3285 is a slightly smaller movement with a slightly smaller date wheel in comparison to the 3187, which was a slightly bigger version of the 3186. I just noticed how the "2" in "21" lines up with the 2 and 4 o'clock hour marker in the first picture in comparison to my 216570. The more outwards position (probably 1 mm) on the old model makes the dial a bit more balanced in my opinion even though the difference is tiny.

Nice. Congratulations.

One of the few remaining Rolex models that doesn't look like a bunch of other Rolex models.

The crown looks "bigger" too compared with the previous model.
