Best Way to Get a Different Color Dial

Question:

I have a Datejust 41 with the silver dial. If I wanted to get a blue dial on it, where and how should I go about getting it?

Should I go to a Rolex Service Center, an AD or independent watchmaker?

Thanks in advance.

Have your AD send it in to a RSC and they will swap to any dial offered for your Reference

True but doubt if it would be free of charge.

How much does the RSC usually charge to do that?

why do you want to change dials? Have you seen the blue dial in person? I initially wanted the blue dial too, but after seeing it in person I decided I wanted the white or black dial, and settled for the black dial (could not find a new white dial). The blue may photo better, but the white or black IMHO are more classic and pair well with anything you wear regardless of color where the blue can clash with some colors.

It may just be me, but I thought I really liked the blue dial Milgauss, but same thing, in person the black dial ended up being the better choice for me.

i always liked the blue dial
considered getting the DJ41 with blue dial
and I recently saw someone wearing a blue dial sky in person

to me, the skydweller is like the DJ on steroid so I would love to have it with the blue dial
black would be okay
but it seems like i have the best chance at getting the white dial

(by best chance, i mean a slim slim chance but it's better than getting the blue)

Why would buy a DJ blue dial like sleepy Joe? You might forget where you left your watch.

Can there be one place on the Internet where we don’t have to do this nonsense?

I called Rolex and got a quote for getting a Datejust 41 dial swapped out. It’s a little over 400 dollars (for the RSC in Beverly Hills).

I live in LA so the closest service center is literally a few miles up the street from me in Beverly Hills. I was told the turn around time is 4-6 weeks.

Regarding Skydweller dials, I’m assuming they are the same price to get the swapped.

Sounds like you know what you want, lots of folks get caught up in the hype and are disappointed later. Good luck on your search at a reasonable price

A year ago I swapped the silver dial on my 7-year old Datejust 41 to blue when I sent the watch in for servicing at RSC.

If I remember correctly, the dial cost about US$380 and Rolex kept the old dial.

No regrets though, to me the blue dial is more attractive.

As you are located in Los Angeles you should make an appointment to visit the RSC in Beverly Hills. Don't even bother with the middle man unless the RSC won't switch it out for you. That said, if your watch is close to a service then the RSC won't do anything unless you service the watch too. Make an appointment now and you might be able to get in there in the next 2-3 weeks, I think they are currently closed. One more thing. Rolex will only switch out the dial with one that originally was offered for your reference. Good luck!

This is my 1999 DJ back from recent service at RSC NY. It had original silver dial that was changed about 12 years ago by Rolex during a service by the previous owner. I was told it is a couple hundred in addition to the regular service, and the chosen dial must be correct for the year of your watch. As stated, they will keep the replaced dial.

That’s awesome. I think the price is around 420 dollars to get it swapped. What was the turn around time? I heard it can take up to 6 weeks until you get your watch back.

Thanks for the feedback. My watch is a 2019 so I’m quite away from getting the required service and my watch is quite accurate.

I did call the RSC for Beverly Hills and they are currently closed for from I was told was some upgrades being done but should reopen in towards the end of this month. Like you said, I was told to make an appointment at least 2 weeks in advance.

No, you are not the only one. Lucky for me when I went DJ shopping I was able to try all the dial options. I thought I wanted blue but found in most lighting it didn't capture what I saw in photos. When I gave the white dial a try it was exactly what I wanted. All the options are great, glad there's variety.

Not so certain; dial swap on Platona is quite pricy. $7K from what I hear. That's going to diamond dial so I'm not certain how much dial cost and complication enter into the equation. I'd get a specific quote for the dial and watch in question.

so a sales associate told me today that RSC will only do a dial swap for a Datejust or Daydate, not any of the professional, sport watches ...
because I mentioned that I would take any skydweller that became available, regardless of the dial color

can anyone confirm one way or the other?

That sounds right to me. I have a hard time believing they will swap any SkyD dial for a blue dial or a Daytona 116508 non-green dial to a green dial. Hard to believe they would do that.

I’ve heard Diamond dial for Platona is available. How about OP dial swaps, say, silver to turquoise?
