Rolex AD Miami

Just left the AD in the Design District. They had to let me due to the security door. That was a good sign as it would lead you to believe there were expensive watches inside. Wrong. Not a single watch. I mean not a single one. Asked about an explorer 2. The lady was nice and said I have an explorer catalog to give you. Also asked if I lived in Miami. I said no. She said try your own AD in your area. I asked if she had any Datejusts. She said she could special order one. The shelves in the window were empty as well as the glass cases on the inside. I wonder what their rent is. Maybe they have watches in the back though.

Our Hyde Park AD had FOUR count 'em FOUR Rolex in stock last week.
DJ, DD, that was it.
The sales guy says "we get a few Rolex in on occasion . . ."

Sad.

People walk in to the Rolex section, people walk out; they buy elsewhere at the other watch stores in the huge mall (and those watch stores have MUCH STOCK. Breitling, Hublot, IWC, Omega, Cartier.)

Not surprised everyone is out of watches. It’s a tough market to get a Rolex nowadays.

Aventura was the same empty cases and the SA seemed frustrated about it

Cases are going to be empty. The back vault is saved for their clients. And since most everything is sold anyway, most ADs don’t really need new Rolex clients. Hence the cases will continue to be empty unless you’re a VIP.

ZERO chance after that answer. And don’t even try lying… as she would have found out exactly where you live five minutes after you leave the store.

If you read between the lines, she essentially said: What are you doing here? We aren’t going to poach business from another AD. GET OUT!

He should have said
“We get a few Rolex in on occasion….for walk-ins
All the rest go in the back”

No way could an AD remain in business legitimately if Rolex was really giving them that few

That's interesting...and quite unusual.

In the design district that the OP is referring to, there WERE many other watch brand boutiques, but people rarely bothered going into them....to the point that a few of them have closed.

I can't imagine how frustrating it is to have a store full of watches and people just go right past to funnel into ROLEX just to for the opportunity to be considered for one...any one...

But the general public don't want "watches"...they want ROLEX.

empty cases does not mean they have nothing to sell.

its just means everything is sold or held in back for VIP clients waiting to be sold.

The ADs are doing fine financially because they're selling everything or pre-sold everything they have

I’ve been to that Miami Design District AD and bought two watches, D Blue DSSD and a white dial Daytona both in 2015 and 2016. At that time, the store was flush with watches. I am not a resident of FL or Miami. Sad state of affairs!

In the case March 16 2016, Miami AD, Design District. To be fair, this was on the day of their Basel show. I flew to Miami to attend, showed up 2 hours early and was first to sign up for this Daytona.

Arrived March 28, 2017

I went to Miami for work and went to the AD in the Aventura Mall. This was Spring of 2020. The salesman was nice to me and knew I wasn't buying anything and a tourist. He let me try on many watches including platinum/gold Daydates and sports models. He was aware of this whole shortage situation but wasn't a dick about it. I was wearing an old T shirt and jogging shorts and beat up old cross trainers because I was about to drive 8 hours and went for super comfy attire and that didn't bother him either. He would have let me try on their Vacheron's and other stuff too but I ran out of time.

I think what really annoys the SA is when people call or show up and ask for, "Pepsi" or "Hulk" and just want immediate gratification. If people walked in and were like, normal people, and treated the SA's time with respect they'd get better results.

I almost forgot. She asked me which dial I preferred. I said I like the black but white would be fine as well.

Bingo! This is absolutely correct. AD’s are getting as many or slightly more watches this year from Rolex as in previous years. Only difference is the demand has increased faster then the supply.

Forget any of the Miami AD’s. Too many celebrities and ultra wealth there for us “normal” folks to score anything

Go to the Seybold Bldg in downtown if you want to see Rolex watches for sale

Yes, but if you walked out with a watch, then who cares...

Probably just a polite, if mildly patronizing, "f*ck off, be gone now, I have my real clients coming in."

You wouldn’t walk out with the watch same day — even if the AD has it. They check your story and call you back in a few days. It’s not their first rodeo.

I highly doubt in this environment if they “check your story”. If they don’t know you and u r not a vip, you are just out of luck..
I just went in to see what they had. When she asked what I was after I said explorer 2

I keep wondering why they think all of y’all are so sketchy haha. SA’s have been cool and patient with me and have sold me new Rolexes without purchase history and a small wait.

Sounds like that big mall central denver. Cherry Hills or Street or Cherry something. Been there — cool Breitling and Omega shops. Shinola store too

No cigar for you!

It is actually the huge Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, AZ. Hyde Park recently moved there from east Phoenix into the old Ben Bridge that had closed. Hyde Park hired the jeweler and Rolex sales lady from Ben Bridge, so that was nice of them. Plus they are VERY skilled and job-knowledgeable. I have know those two persons for several years. I was sold my Tudor Pelagos LHD at Ben Bridge a few years back.

When it was BB, they had very few Rolex, perhaps 20-25 or so. But now that they are Hyde Park there is nothing 'out' in the display cases.
Matt (jeweler) says he would help me "try" to get Rolex, but I am not in the market for any <more> of the modern offerings. I have the 214270 and 326933 that I got a few years back, from 'Wesley Jewelers' in old-town Scottsdale, a few blocks away from the now-relocated Hyde Park.

Now this: Wesley was a family run (still is) Phoenix business since 1910 and has moved to and been in old-town Scottsdale since 1953. They are also one of the very highest-volume Rolex dealers in the southwest U.S. and the owner is quite tight with the Rolex Switzerland people.

I have 'wondered' if 'perhaps' Rolex funnels 'most' of their products to Wesley and metes out very little to other local Rolex dealers, of which there only two others now? Another two AD's are no more.

Just my random thoughts, which may be meaningless and untrue. I have nothing of real substance to go on.

I don't know if they have "stuff in the back" (most AD's do) but since I am not looking, I did not even ask about any particular items.

They could close many more stores and still have a giant waitlist for watches. But it’s obvious people are here because of the strong secondary market to flip versus actually wear and enjoy. I’ve passed on too many watches because it’s a lot of money to spend on something I didn’t think I’d wear.
