Next watch or quit advice
I am starting to think I am not collection material. I have been through so many watches, love them for awhile, I start noticing a small thing I dislike, then I sell it back. I think the Rolex value has actually been a curse for me because it makes me super picky and I know I can alway sell the watch back without losing any money.
First thing - Only Rolex. I had omega, JLC and Breiting. Don’t like them as much as Rolex and your money goes down the drain when you sell them. Second, the following has been my Rolex watches: 114060 - loved it, only traded it in for the 124060. Sub without a date has been the only thing that lasts. Only Rolex I have now. For me, I like the sub without a date more. But it is also a curse because I feel like I need one with a date as well. So that is when I went for the datejusts: Datejust 41, white, jubilee, fluted.Didn’t like how the markers were so noticeable. Datejust 41, black, jubilee, fluted. liked it, but really wanted the blue Datejust 41, blue, jubilee, fluted. Amazing dial. Had if for a year. Missed the ceramic bezel when I was not wearing the sub. Also not sure I like the fluted bezel on my wrist. So thought let’s go GMT with a ceramic bezel: TT Rootbeer - really liked it for a short time. Then the brown got to me. Also didn’t want to wait for the Batman at the time. So then TT Bluesy - long story short, had it twice! The blue was awesome, but didn’t love the blue dial in the sun. Now I am just down to my 124060 and a white dial NOMOs which I never wear because it is dress, but good to have just in case. So now my AD knows I want the bluesy YES AGAIN, the Batman on jubilee, the Daytona white dial (on the list for 4 years), the sub LV. Heck I kinda still think about the rootbeer and blue datejust. Maybe I am not fit to collect. I kinda love all of the above mentioned, but find flaws in all of them. So should I give up any collection hopes and if not, what should I get? Anyone else out there like me?

Agree, but then get bored, see a cool shiny watch and want it. Think I need a new hobby or something.

Maybe set a “waiting period” before you buy your next watch? 6 months? That way you’ll have time to think things through.

BLNR on jubilee is the alternative piece to go alongside your no date sub. You are welcome

How big is your wrist? Maybe try out Polar explorer. Or Milgauss Z-blue for something a little different :)

Really really good advice. Actually gave me a sense of calm thinking about waiting a bit. Appreciate it.

I think I might actually really like them, but not easy to try them on when non are ever on the stores. Would love to go in and try them all on, that is part of the problem. Wrist is around 7 inches.

It's good you're focusing on Rolex as this would be a bad waste of money to keep moving back and forth.
Having owned a bluesy 2x and now wanting ANOTHER one is not good. That's an example of some problematic behavior. Buying just to buy kind of thing. It's common in collections. Get a Sub. Unplug from TRF and other watchforums and move it on down the road to another hobby...hopefully not cars!! |

Keep Sub ND.
Keep waiting for Daytona, then buy when it comes up. Use a watch rental service to feed the need for variety. |

collector does not mean never sell. I actually appreciate your spirit. You're having a go around with each reference. And some you can't quit on so you go back around again.

Might be the plan. My wife actually suggested the watch rental service. Do you have one to recommend?

Honestly, I can totally relate. I can’t really give any advice, because I’m also still figuring it out :P
I think sticking with what you got, unplugging from TRF/other watch forums, and waiting for the BLNR/Daytona while trying to forget about watches for a while is what I would do. I should really take my own advice haha. |

I've always bought watches I plan to keep. I haven't sold one, nor do I plan to. Are there any sentimental reasons to buy a watch? Kinda surprised your AD keeps selling you or considering you for watches that you may sell. Did you buy the Bluesy from them twice before and they're considering you for a third time?
If you really haven't been able to enjoy the watches you buy, you may not want to keep buying. |

It sounds like there are number of issues you need to address and the fact you are able to move on to the next one without significant penalty is facilitating this addiction/syndrome.
You have taken the first step by acknowledging there is a problem so seeking some professional help may be in order or it may pervade every aspect of your life and have a profoundly negative impact in other more important areas. One question is in my mind Has it manifested in a worse fashion since COVID? The reason I ask, is these types of things are being noted by health professionals as becoming more prevalent since these COVID times, but there hasn't been a psych study into it yet and subsequently given a label. |
