Facebook came out in 2004 and that platform was never a hypebeast/flex platform to begin with. It was more of a social platform to interact with close friends and family. Its only post 2010 that facebook started in this direction. Instagram only came out in 2010. Wasnt that big for several years and then exploded. Its THE biggest platform now for hypebeasts and flux/urban culture. By watching numerous interviews of hypebeasts the SS hypetrain took off because it was available to the masses. The price point of steel was so low teenagers could afford to buy and that lasted a few years. Then the big boys of the hypetrains started to wear gold to "flex" more because there were just too many teeny boppers buying up and flexing with SS so that made the real big influencers change their mindset. No longer was SS sort after it became too common and mainstream. The ONLY way they could differentiate themselves is to move up to higher tier watches like AP/Patek and full gold models which the younger aspiring generating could not easily replicate and keep these hypebeats and influencers on a pedestal. This is what we are seeing now and its working. The big boys all rocking RMs, Patek 5980s, AP full Rose Gold ROCs and at the lower price points full gold Rolex's. At these levels the common everyday joe blow hypebeats wannabees cant follow. - and the ones that try will eventually run of out $$$. This is why there is a HUGE influx of solid gold pieces skyrocketing and precious metals surging in popularity even amongst the youngest crowds even though they cant afford it. Marketing and influencers doing what they do best. cheers: |

Haha never said they are better. I would prefer a steel over TT and a TT over a full gold. Lesser flashy is better. what I meant is that someone who’s wearing a twontone Daytona would get more eyes probably than someone wearing a steel one! I guess that’s a common thing coz gold is more in your face and flashy. And for a laymen it’s more expensive and prestigious. Even though in watch world the reality is far different. Not back in fashion, just what’s available after the gray scooped up all the stainless.

Another reason to wear the watch you love... chasing the hype train is fruitless and frustrating.
