For sale is a pre-owned excellent vintage condition 40mm stainless steel Rolex Submariner. The reference 1680, originally sold in 1974, is a full set. Accompanying the watch are the original inner and outer box, guarantee paperwork, cigarette card, and original purchase receipts. It is important to note that the watch comes with the original serialized guarantee rather than a chronometer certificate. During this period it was common for Ads to use whatever papers where on hand. This example features a black matte MK V dial with red Submariner text, date aperture at three o’clock, and rotatable aluminum bezel. MK V dials are distinguished by the less pronounced, but still open 6s in the depth rating and the lack of white print underneath the red Submariner text. This variation is commonly seen in the 2-3 million serial range, which this example falls within. The lume plots remain clean and slightly off-white while the hands have age a couple shades darker than the dial. The bezel insert appears to be a flat four luminova service insert in which the lume pip glows when exposed to UV light. The 1680 is mounted on a stainless steel 9135 Oyster bracelet with 380 end links. The bracelet remains in approximately 70% condition with moderate stretch and will accommodate a 7.25-inch wrist. The Submariner is powered by a Rolex caliber 1575 self-winding movement.
