First time waiting for midnight with my Datejust

Last night it was taking a while to fall asleep, and pushing midnight I thought, "Hey, let's watch that baby snap the date!" I rolled over, and the lume was fine, but it was too dark to see the date number, so I just touched my phone to spark up a little glow.

11:59:57, :58, :59...nothin'. Hmm. I was a bit spooked. Lit the phone again and checked at 12:02...still nothin', and now I'm downright newbie-freaked. I mean, it's a 2-week-old watch, and it's a Rolex, so...hmm. I was tired, too, though---so rather than staring the whole time, I finally waited to check until about 12:05, and by then of course it had flipped.

I confess I at first was a tad disillusioned that my beautiful instantaneous date-change function drag-assed in later than the stroke of midnight...but I guess I'm just a dingus. I now have read that a few minutes plus or minus is common. And, come to think of it, this is still soooooo much better than my quartz Bulova Marine Star, whose date creeps mushily through its change across 2 or 3 or 4 horrid hours.

No worries, both my Batman and Hulk changes few mins after midnight. Didn’t even bother checking my SkyD. At least my new ND Sub doesn’t need checking :)

Guys no need to lose sleep. Just set your watch to 11:55 in the middle of the day and you can watch it turn over anytime you want.

what difference does it make?? i mean when you wake up in the morning its the next day ... im at a loss here people just wear your watch and enjoy it!

For a new guy it could be worrisome since he doesn’t know whether it’s broken or by design.

My initial thought was I'm going to stay up two more hours to determine when my sub date changes then common sense emerged and told self " enough already, go to sleep!". My wif reminds me that I've been known to obsess over first world "problems "..... :-)

Mine switches at midnight. But my YM switches at 12:05. I remember the SA said only datejust were supposed to change at midnight...anyway I would not worry about it.

Neither of my modern datejusts change exactly at 12. They both lag like 4 minutes

Only my long dead digital watch ever changed at exactly the point where it hit Midnight.
Other Rolex watches I've had in the past have changed within a few seconds past Midnight, but in modern times this is not so as I think the current crop change anywhere between 3-4 minutes past.
I don't care much anymore as I'm simply glad to be able to wake up the next day

All my Rolex watches change the date instantaneously. They just don't do it at exactly midnight.

Have to agree its not like a electronic switch, its purely a mechanical proses some change a little before midnight some a little after. But what is more important is when you wake up after a good night sheep, and you can see its changed. It proves you are still alive for another day now that's far more important.

Between us, my wife and I have owned about 15 Rolexes over the years. Her current TT DJ31 is the only one that changes exactly at midnight.

Thanks, Padi--and per the date window today, apparently I indeed am still alive, which is great. And as you say, it definitely is a helluva mechanical marvel, and so wonderfully crisp when it does change, especially compared to my mushy Bulova.
