DJ41 Two repairs and eight months. Still not fixed.

Hoping to get some advice on how to seek competent Rolex warranty repair.

Datejust 41/3235 movment purchased in 2019. Began to lose 30/sec per day and was sent for warranty service in Dec 2020. Five months later, the problem was fixed but three weeks later, I couldn't wind the watch. I could feel the gear teeth slipping when turning the crown in the winding position.

Second warranty service to repair winding June 2021. This took over three months and I had to pay to have the watch shipped to me from the AD since I had relocated. Less than two weeks after receiving the piece and I can't wind the watch again. Worse, it's running about +6/per day. I believe the spec is +2/-2.

The teeth will engage enough to start the watch, but eventually, they will wear down and I don't want metal filings floating around inside the movement. It has to be repaired AGAIN. I can live with +6 per day, but not the gear problem.

What can I do to get both problems corrected once and for all? The movement in this watch is obviously defective and should be replaced. I think that I should make my warranty claim directly to Rolex and maybe they can get it right? The AD isn't getting the job done and I don't think they care. They have droves of new buyers lined up years in advance.

How would you proceed? Thanks in advance.

Rolex Service Center. Take warranty card and watch to AD. They will pack and ship it to RSC.

dont deal with your AD, who knows who they sent it to for service. call a RSC directly and work it out with them. hopefully they were the ones who worked on the watch and will help you facilitate

Agreed with above comments, go to the RSC directly. That's what I would do if my 3235 based watches start to seriously misbehave.

Hey OP

I had two watches affected by the issue.

One is sentimental so I’m going to send it in for 2nd warranty but the other one i simply sold it and got a new watch to replace it.

I don’t know which bucket yours falls into but I do honestly feel rsc will fix it properly for you at one point.

On a different note my experience with a problem op36 mirrors yours. I sent it in due to winding issues but for me it was skipping teeth during the wind. Sent in the watch which was doing +2 came back +6? Lol I’m totally fine with +6 and my issue hasn’t returned.

Let the RSC work on it and forget the AD. Their watchmaker doesn’t have it

Welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear of your troubles with the watch.
They tell me there's a 5 year warranty on these things and you probably ought to take full advantage of it by dealing with Dallas RSC directly.
If that doesn't work out for you long term, then I suggest flicking the watch and picking up something decent to replace it.
Alternately, if you must keep it you may consider refraining from manually winding

Have to get more information like how was you winding your watch if you was winding back and throe that could be normal as they only wind on the forward wind. As for the +6 seconds how was this measured on a singe day or over many days of wearing, or on a machine. If you fully manually wind watch say 40 plus crown turns clockwise only how long does watch run off wrist. The spec is thats its been tested on a machine in a controlled environment to a precision average -2+2 seconds.

Leave the AD behind and contact the RSC directly. They will advise you on how to ship to them and follow the directions or they will not accept the watch. They will sort it out and return the watch working as it should. I would think the AD is servicing the watch themselves or with a local service tech. I hope you get it sorted out.

I sure hope you revealed it to the buyer. "Simply Sold it" does not sound like you did. ugh.

It was clearly fast the day it was returned. I wound it in the morning, hacked to the second with my phone and 12 hours later it was already +3. Not superlative.

I thought to have some patience and maybe it would settle down. I usually hack the watch daily for work purposes. The dealbreaker was after a week of wear (averaging +6), it went in the box and when I went back for it, the teeth began slipping while winding it (only forward).

I have a Pelagos that's flawless and runs +4/week. I know Rolex builds great watches, but this is ridiculous. I've come across several posts about the 3235 having problems but I don't know if it's any more than other Rolex movements?

Does the 3235 movement have a design flaw that hasn't been corrected? My watch was probably produced in 2018. I bought it January, 2019.

Nope, sold to a grey market dealer who do their own checks etc before moving it on and it had 4 years warranty on it. If you have a lemon car what do you do? Judge me if you will but honestly don't care.
