Should I check-in with AD on regular basis or just wait?
I’m on the waitlist for a submariner (no date). I was told by my AD it could be up to 18 months which I’m fine with. Wondering should I check in with them, say every month if so, or trust they will contact me when one becomes available (of course, with the caveat this may never happen!). Would appreciate any guidance on this
Thanks Luke |

Always depends on the AD and your relationship. But I never see harm stopping by, chatting a bit, and then letting them know how excited you are about the Sub! I would never want to be out of sight, out of mind.

Depends on you and the AD. We pop into our AD's store for various reasons from time to time and we always visit the watch department. It never hurts to say hi. Visiting frequently just to remind them would not be appropriate with my AD. When I went on the list for my BLRO it took 15 months, in which time I visited once to put a TAG in for a repair. Of course I enquired about the BLRO. Since getting my BLRO last month, we've been in three times for various reasons and I've bought something from them over the phone and had it delivered. So it varies.

I was thinking of asking this question too. My AD only sells Rolex. I’ve phoned once and popped in once since I put my name down for a Sea Dweller. My initial SA hasn’t been around either time and although it’s nice to go in and have a look around (they have SD, Sub and no date Sub on display), I feel it offers no value going in. I’m almost certain they don’t pass on to my SA that I’ve been in contact. Not that they aren’t polite and welcoming but I get the impression that they feel I’m already getting attended to so pointless going back in. Indeed, when I visited a few days ago the advice I got was to forget all about Rolex until I get a call about the watch.

Do the pop in visits as much as you want, but think a bit from the dealer's perspective to decide how you'll handle things.

It's still conflicting though...
I understand that you have to build a relationship with the AD so as to be somewhat appreciated and in turn get the preferential treatment. But what if frequent visits makes the AD too familiar and maybe get fed up? What if it makes you seen like you're bugging? |

Good luck with the Sky Dweller. I am on the list for a blue one and it's just a question of living long enough. And popping my head around the corner when I'm in for something else or walking past. |

You need to pay them more than a visit. Buying customers will always be ahead of you

I believe purchasing a few items, even if not very costly, along the way - might be helpful.

It was a nice conversation until he confirmed that he could no longer deliver the Blue Sky D in November as he had originally promised! I will need to go in and see him to find out when it is likely. I'm no longer expecting to receive it any time soon to be honest. Good luck in your quest for the blue Sky D. A friend of mine picked his up last year and it's an absolute beauty as you know. |

You need to pop in once and awhile… 1-2 a month is too much in my opinion. Just enough so they remember you… If you’re in the neighborhood, looking for a gift, referring friends, that sort of thing… checking out what other brands and jewellery they have and of course other purchases will speed up your delivery on the sub…. Nothing refreshes their memory more than you buying something else. Good luck!!

Thanks all! Went in today - after being told last time it would be 18 months, I was told today that due to my spend history not being high enough, it would be years . Perhaps good I didn’t just ‘wait’ for the call

Nice way to treat people. I suppose if you went in a third time, they'd just laugh at you. ^&%$#@* these chumps. They don't deserve your business at any level.

Hi,
From my personal experience, it's important to show up a couple of time per year and let them know you still are interested in the timepiece you want ( it also helps to express a specific request, not something like "I'd like anything in steel that comes first). Cheers |

Gotta give to get. Does the AD sell anything else or do you have a separate jeweler for other things?

True! I get why ADs prioritise those who spend. They don’t have much else I want - bought an Omega Speedmaster in July from another AD but when I enquired about a Submariner, they said I needed to have bought a Rolex from them to get on the list (chicken and egg situation!). This AD is out of town (outside London). They have some cool Tudor’s but in the back of my mind, can’t help but feel I would be buying for the sake of getting on a list. Sorry, repeating a classic problem here! I’m happy to wait for a Sub - just want to eventually get the call
