He would need constant eyeballs on him, continually persuading him not to chew or nip at the children, shoes or anything, he would hump us all the second he had a chance, he would have pee puddles or poop droppings as we were potty training him etc. BUT, after that passes, and it did, he is the best thing that the whole family loves and enjoys. He is precious and turned out to be so gentle and sweet. The only thing missing is an actual voice coming from him, he is incredible and love him to death. Just stick with it, this time will pass....I can totally draw comparisons of having a new born child in the house....except when they grow older they do not answer back!
Wow thanks man for the reply. I will stick with it I think though this is the first time I have wished time away so that I get over that 6 months period. Only a few months to go.

Another helpful tip is to find a quality doggy daycare nearby (where all the dogs are fully vaccinated etc). When the pup needs to burn off energy and you need a break there's nothing quite like a 1/2 day outing to a place where they can socialize with other dogs and use up some of that energy.
FWIW The place we go to also does grooming so that's handy.

Another great idea. I did some research on the day care places
next week we are looking at one with other dogs.
definitely looking forward to seeing them cannot wait
and i think it will do the little guy some good
definitely he needs a break from us and some socialization.
I took him out today with a ball he loves for a big run around
seems like that tired him out. Plus some games.
also do you all have dogs which mouth just one person in the family is this normal
weeks of training he is not nipping but gets excited and only mouths me
and i am doing all that redirecting stuff etc but nothing seems to work.
no doubt i cannot wait until he is about 3 years old lol and he calms down
keep telling my self its going to get easier and the kids love him as well
all i wish is that i could tell what he is thinking i think because its a dog will he snap at any time.

When does the thing calm down and stop eating f&@ing sticks of the ground. My one threw up in the park after trying to eat a stick and it still didn’t bloody learn. If anyone wants a free bulldog puppy let me know lol.
This post made me laugh so hard. Thank you for that

My boy use to mouth when he was younger, I remember my sister in law screaming he's biting me. Completely over reacted. Bulldogs are very stubborn and can be quite dirty when younger and harder to train. I think boys are worst as my first girl wasn't as bad as my boy, I even had someone round to look at him when he was younger as I was debating letting him go.

As I said I think boys are just more stubborn but I'm glad I stuck with him as he's my best friend now, doesn't leave me alone, really affectionate and honest to God best dog I've had, great character, great off the lead etc.... but still stubborn!!

Enjoy your bully

My Bull Terrier Riley is much easier to work with now that he is out of the puppy phase. Took 6 years but he is lovely. Still miss my border collie Jamie. Sweet girl and so obedient!

Decades ago, we got a Rottweiler puppy from the breeder as soon as we were able to (6 weeks old?). Yikes. He prompted us to joke: Why are puppies so cute? Because otherwise we would kill them.

We’ve owned a number of dogs since then; the youngest have been around 10 months old (rescue dogs from the pound), and the oldest have been around 3 years old (purebreds, directly from the breeder). We have two dogs right now, and they are truly a bonded pair.

No more “baby” puppies for me. Just around one old seems to be a sweet spot, as long as the dog has a great temperament. Young puppies are a ton of work, and are alternatively fragile and destructive.

My sister is a lifelong dog lover (she even volunteered at the humane society when she was a kid) and has owned and rescued countless dogs over the past 25 years. She doesn’t adopt young puppies, either. One of my friends is active in animal rescue, and she’s told me that she’s personally had the best luck with 3-year-old dogs, as you know what you’re getting into.

The owner and dog have to be a good match as far as temperament and energy. High energy dogs can get destructive if they’re kept in the house all day. Dogs that really need a lot of human companionship don’t do well when they’re left outside all day to be a guard dog, and aren’t really treated as a pet.

The Rottie puppy was, however, the cutest thing ever!

Just keep sticking with the plan on the nipping. You need to continually be persistent with this. A few weeks is not long enough. A few months and you will see it will start to wain away. Redirecting him with a rubber toy in hand, as well, they say to yell loudly “ouch” every time he does this. When dogs play fight, they will yelp to let the other dog it’s too rough. Just don’t give up. It will pay off. Our dog was a nipping machine.
We were discouraged but the trainer told us to stick with the plan. We did and he never, ever nips. He is now two years old, but this stop over a year ago.

Just got a mini schnauzer myself. 9 weeks old.

I admit that the first few days, I was regretting it. I forgot how difficult a puppy is.

But after a week, she is proving to be magical in all ways. Smart, sweet, affectionate and just great to have around.

I bring her to work with me and the office loves her. She also loves being here. It has been a real treat.

I am working hard to train her. And if I need to send to the pros for a few weeks, I will do that too. It will be better for her and for me in the long term.

She looks an awful lot like the dog that coined the name "Superdog" for me...same dog in my avatar.

Hey Nick, meet Max and Brady, fellow miniature schnauzers/baby waking machines.

Brady has a sensitive stomach and when he's puking/pooping blood, I wonder why the hell we have dogs. But the good far outweighs the bad. I love these two little bastards.

Our dog was great! Well behaved, friendly, particularly bonded to my mother. The “joke” was that Tiffany was my mother’s favorite child. Enjoy your puppy, we enjoyed Tiffany very much.

Does anyone watch “Lucky Dog?” It is on CBS on Saturday morning in the US. Dogs are rescued, trained by a professional trainer, then adopted by a family.

I’m doing a master class with the trainer on that show.

He’s definitely a master.

And a very good dude.

A tip for Seth

Mini schnauzers were originally bred to pursue rats. If you go in your backyard with your puppy and the dog detects a rabbit, deer or mouse, it will take off like a rocket after it! Tiffany usually didn’t catch her prey, but her speed and focus were impressive. Just be aware if your dog detects prey, it may take off like a shot. As long as this occurs in a fenced in area, it’s fine.

Very cute dog! You will have fun!

I got my first pup (Frenchie at 10 weeks during pandemic in 2020. 10 weeks is rough work.

I just got our dog a brother (same dad) and he is 7 months. I thought I was being sly getting an “older puppy”. Nope. I’ve had him for just over 1 week and it’s been brutal.

I have got to to you folks, this dog is amazing. Super smart. Super trainable. I think she is essentially house broken. Being a puppy, she has minimal control. But she knows to go outside for sure. So if she goes inside, it is totally my fault.

I cant get over how good she is. she trails along beside me with no leash (but great advice above) and is just a bundle of joy.

sleeps a ton as she is a puppy but is so much fun.

dogs take work. but you get what you give. I have learned a lot watching the master class on training. will continue this process for months and get her exactly how I need her to be.

what a joy dogs can be in the right environment.

I've come to a similar conclusion Seth (as the new puppy is sitting in my lap asleep as I type this with 1 hand)

I needed to re-adapt my routine for the puppy to get the puppy to adapt to our routine.

Yours is adorable!

Edit: I will say Fresh Patch deliveries are very helpful for potty training. Our first one essentially trained herself

I'm on my 3rd miniature schnauzer. They are such great breeds. I put my oldest down this time last year, and didn't think I could ever have another one because Chip was the best. I was also going through a divorce last year, and really struggling with it. Low and behold my 3rd one, Bailey, fell in my lap. I wasn't looking for one, but a friend of a friend told me about her. She's been nothing but a blessing. She takes so much of my time and all her energy has basically not given me the time to feel sorry for myself about my divorce. I'm thankful for her. Also, the unconditional love you get from your dog. Man's best friend for a reason!
