New 15550 RO range announced! 15450 on discount?
Brilliant to hear about the new 37mm 15550/ST range of royal oaks being announced today
I'm still excited about the existing 15450st range however... Does this announcement typically mean the previous range would now be on a discount on the grey market? |

Is the only difference aside from dial colors the removal of “Automatic” from the dial? It seems generally that most preferred having that text so can’t see the change driving prices down at all…

removal of automatic AND the “AP” logo, which i really liked. plus it’s also thinner and has a few other smaller tweaks to the case according to hodinkee |

Means the opposite. It'll cost even more now that it's been discontinued.

Visually, what I can pick up:
- AP logo replaced with applied Audemars Piguet logo - skeletonised seconds hands (similar to 15500) - no more 3 marker (similar to 15500) - new movement (imo a downgrade from the 3120) |

looks like the bracelet is narrower at the top. i feel like the 15450 looks a bit better even though it has an aggressive taper. the 15550 kinda looks like the proportions between the case and bracelet are a bit off, not sure how to explain it but maybe it's only me. that new blue dial looks sick though but i guess no one's getting it so doesn't matter

What happened to the 15400 price compared to the 15500? Feel like that might be the closest indicator of the 15450 vs 15550. However, I will also point out that the 2022 version will have a special 50th rotor. So the 2022 version might cost more than the 15550 to be made in 2023.

15400 continued a steady upward trend until late 2020 - then the grey asking prices really took off. Right now, the blue dial 15400 doesn't seem to be far behind a 15500 in equivalent condition.

I've observed that as well. Only increases demand for the older ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe like 6 or 7 years ago, the discontinued model would be cheaper than the newer model as people would trade up. Now it's the opposite as no one sells the old model at the same time demand goes up for old and new.

That's the opposite of the 15400 -> 15500 transition which got thicker instead of thinner. Not sure about the taper until I see in person, and I like the 15450 and 15400 dials better than the respective 155XX. |

I meant it from a visual perspective.
At the time of writing, the only rear shot I could find was from wristcheck’s IG - post below: https://www.instagram.com/p/CZNByS1himD/?hl=en Compared to the 15450, I thought it looked bland, uninspiring and maybe a tad small. Could just be lighting/angle though - might be different when more real world shots come to surface. |

I actually preferred the look of 15450st over the 15550. Had my name on one at my local boutique. Do you think they will still make both watches alongside for a while?

does anybody know if you're up for "consideration" (aka on the "list") for a 15450 and now that its discontinued, does your place in line automatically transfer over to the new 15550?
Or is it pretty going to be like starting over? I've been trying to contact my SA but I just cant reach him, he is likely flooded with his other clients trying to ask about the new releases. |

No doubt its generated a lot of excitement. I wonder if that'll be focused strictly on the new line
Taking a quick look at chrono24, it seems the 15450st has blown up again in price over the last couple of days, yikes |

ive gotten a hold of the receptionist at the NY boutique though and she said they're pretty much going to be busy the next few weeks and that next week they'll have a bunch of private events, likely to show off the new ROs to their high end clients |

Lol… OP are you new to AP or even new to watches in general?
I think you’re confusing the RO with electronics or cars... Older generation of these already in high demand watches don’t lose value because they don’t lose functionalities. And in many cases, certain design choices unique to the generation garners higher value over time In the case of 15550 - the lack of AP logo alone might be a strong tailwind for 15450 prices for months or even years to come |
