Calling old expat beast
Hi folks,
Would love some info on this watch, now my recollection is Father Christmas gave it to me in the late 70's, however i recall I bought another one later on in life, I could be wrong though. Regardless I have belted this watch from pillar to post, never serviced, still keeps good time, however the bezel is jammed. Amazing quality. My plan is to restore it with the original rubber strap. Thanks in advance. |

Very nice. It's a 7002-7001 made in November 1991 (we can see from the serial).

Thanks again, time to service it and get the correct band, do you think it would have come with a SS bracelet or rubber strap? |

6309-7040: https://adventuresinamateurwatchfett...6309-7040/amp/
I’ll check my books later for the right straps.

Both your watches would have probably come on what is now called a Seiko DAL1BP urethane rubber strap.
I'm not sure about those other two, but all Seiko casebacks show a hyphenated eight digit reference number, and a serial number, and with those two you can date the watch to the month and year and find out more about it online.

Your 7002 and 6309 can go on a classic GL-831 strap. The best reproductions in my opinion come from Uncle Seiko. I’ve got them on roughly 6 vintage divers.

Thanks all kindly, one more question and I know it is subjective, should I get them serviced they are both keeping (so far) excellent time the 6309 has some serious patina on the hands, my thoughts at present are to get them serviced, new gaskets and clean the watch including the hands or should I leave the hands as they are.
ps. within a few hours I started the 6309 it has not lost a second, seriously these vintage Seiko's are magnificent. |

I would get them serviced as they'll be very dry inside and the parts will deteriorate in time if not well lubricated. Talk to a watchmaker about the hands, you can easily find replacements online if required, as well as crystals and other parts.

Thanks
I remember getting it from Father Christmas hiding under the duvet looking at the lume, at the time a few guys hand Citizen divers I thought my Seiko was a little more special. Ordered a strap this will be my daily for a while. How this evolved is special.

The thing is, the Turtle (6309) hands lume looks like it might be crumbling and could fall into the movement through the day/date window so it might at least need stabilising.
