Rolex Ownership and OCD

So recently I made a thread about the dial on my rolex not lining up to the rehaut on my watch. In the original thread a lot of members told me it wasn’t a big deal and to leave it alone. A select few mentioned that it was an easy fix and the RSC could open up the watch and line it up easily.

I noticed this misalignment about a month ago and I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

So I decided to take it to my RSC. Luckily I live close to the Beverly Hills RSC so I decided to drop it off. Just like a few members have said, it was an easy fix for them. I dropped it off and had the watch back in my hand that same day.

When I uploaded a photo of my watch to give everyone an update a few members pointed out that the bezel now doesn’t line up with the dial.

It seems as though it wasn’t the dial that was misaligned. It was the rehaut. I’m assuming when these watches are being assembled the technicians line everything up based off of the bezel and not the rehaut.

I guess I am writing this to any Rolex owners that are OCD like me and are annoyed by small misalignments. Sometimes it’s better to let the small things go. Also listen to the Rolexforum members lol

Only ever had a couple rehaut
out of 20+ that lined up that's how I know they're real.

They can fix that bezel also. It's not a big deal. You can click it one increment before off 12 and fudge it over (without the click) until you have a chance to get adjusted.

The rehaut coronet is absolute center. Period. There is no debating this.

Your dial was a hair off center but the bezel was aligned to the dial (I.e. technically the bezel was also a hair off center).

You had them move the dial but not the bezel. If they were aligned before, then of course they are not aligned now.

If it came out of the rolex factory and passed QC but you still feel the need to mess with it and change it, then the problem is probably not with the watch and maybe a different brand would be more suited for you.

The dial feet attach directly to the movement, which can’t be rotated because the crown stem holds it in place. I don’t think it’s possible for the dial to be off-center.

There is tolerance in all of the parts of the watch especially at Rolex where they need to keep touch labor to a minimum. This is an edge case and not an issue to begin with.

1. There is tolerance in the laser coronet
2. There is tolerance in the crown tube centering
3. There is tolerance in the dial attachment to the movement. (Not a pressed friction fit of hard/soft materials).

Yes true but there is a very tiny bit of lateral movement both ways before dial is tightened to movement top plate. And in the real world if they got rid of the Rolex branding on rehoute then everyone's would line up somewhere. As for the bezel the only thing that has to line up with, is wherever the minute hand is on the dial to time things. Its not supposed to be left within a cats whisker of the 12 marker.

In mass production, I don't think technicians are involved at that point on the production line.

You are a perfectionist and that is ok - if it bugs you and stops the enjoyment of the watch it seems it can be fixed - good to see these little nuances in production . It’s so fine it wouldnt bother myself but we are all different.

Congratulations OP. You found something that bothered you, it was fixable and you got it fixed.

I’ve gotten to the point that I have a certain criteria/list of acceptable vs not-acceptable when it comes to what will bother me on a watch purchase.
If buying new ….unless there’s a blatant defect, scratch, something inside on the dial that’s not supposed to be there, etc…I’m good. Little misalignments don’t bother me.
If purchasing pre-owned….the list of acceptable gets a little more lenient on some things, but a misalignment on pre-owned would have me searching for service history to see if the watch had been opened.
In your case, I would never have sent it in. Hope you enjoy your watch.

Bezel alignment is an easy fix for the RSC. Mine needingcdoungvaftet it wasn't spit on after a service.


But, in reality, it isn't an issue as the bezel is designed to be rotated to match the hand's current position, which may or may not match one of its 120 clicks..

Look at the 12 o'clock triangle marker bottom tip.

Looks like they aligned the rehaut better but now the bezel looks off center based on the after picture.

I honesty can't even tell what you are talking about. Is the little crown supposed to be somewhere else? Or centered? You can't even see it unless you magnify. The dial and bezel both look straight to me in all the pictures.

I dislike the fact that the term OCD is thrown around too often these days.

Most people don’t have a clue as to what clinical OCD is.
