NWA - Let's Get Scientific

Just wanted to share my new purchase. This is a 25 piece limited run between L.U. Chopard and Revolution Magazine.

The scientific dial was chosen by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, John Goldberger and Wei Koh to honor the Qualite Fleurier certification this watch goes through. Qualite Fleurier is an extremely difficult watch certification process originally designed by L.U. Chopard, Parmigiani and Bovet. So far as I know, only LUC keeps this alive in some of their watches. It results in a high attrition rate, which is why it is so seldomly used.

To obtain QF certification:
1. Must be 100% Swiss made
2. Pass COSC to be certified as a chronometre
3. Pass the chronofiable test; a sample of cased-up watches are selected to go through a brutal set of tests including magnetic resistance, WR, shock resistance, stressing the crown, etc.
4. Every cased up watch goes through a 24-hour robotic simulation of daily wear (including simulating a person running, playing golf, etc). At the end of the test the cased up watch must still run between 0 and +5 seconds per day.
5. Movement must have a high level of finishing

Watch is 39mm x 9mm and is super wearable, legible and the finishing is definitely on point.

A very, very interesting watch. The only thing that destroys the image of consistency is this second hand. Congratulations on your purchase, I could wear it!

Congratulations! I really love this watch. The beautifully proportioned sector-dial layout, the clean yet casual numerals, the spectacular and unusual hands, and the subtle soldered lugs are just... *chef's kiss*.

My only criticism (and this is honest-to-goodness nitpicking) is the somewhat elevated placement of the sub-seconds dial, ostensibly resulting from the use of the Calibre 96 in the 39mm case (as this movement was designed to fit the L.U.C 1860's 36.5mm case). And just to be clear, I don't think I'd change a damn thing about this watch... I certainly wouldn't forgo the acclaimed Calibre 96 on this account, and 39mm is the perfect size for a "sporty" steel-cased watch.

Well done! Enjoy it and wear the hell out of it with the assurance of the QF certification!

No offense taken; this is my only criticism as well. You are spot on with the reasoning for the sub second placement. If I had my way, I would prefer this watch to be 37 or 38mm. I do get Chopard’s decision to go with 39mm though, the general public (outside of Asia) is still not onboard with sub 38mm watches.

I defined plan on putting it through its paces!

Congrats! I immediately thought of you when I saw this announced because you had such high praise for LUC. It’s great you scored one.

haha, I def have been wanting one for a while. I'm still on the hunt for a quality 1860, they're getting surprisingly hard to find.

Great watch!

If it hadn't been sold out when I saw it on Revolution a few days ago I might have been tempted. Like you I would have preferred 37 or 38mm but that is a minor complaint.

Great watch. Chopard deserves much more recognition for the stuff it’s bringing out.

Huge congrats...i saw it released and tried to buy, but too late. I'm so glad you were able to grab one, such a beautiful piece. I to have been a long time fan of the Chopard LUC pieces, but haven't, until now, seen the one to make me jump and say "shut up and take my money". Great addition to your already fantastic collection.

Thanks! It's taken a lot of trial and error, but I think I finally see where I want my collection to go.

So, what I'm hearing is we should try and organize a limited run between TRF and LUC??

Such a beautiful piece!

I was looking if they made a regular one similar to this. There is one, but not as nice and good looking.
