Manhattan Parking Tickets
30 years I've been driving into NYC .. at least 15-20 times/year.
In all that time I only received 1 parking ticket, about 7 years ago. I thought I was legally parked, but I guess I wasn't ... I appealed it & ticket was tossed. I really do try to follow the rules. Today, everything changed .... Anybody here have any horror stories to share? |

Where I live, we have wireless parking devices. You fill it up with credit from a credit card.
When you park, you select the color of meter (different colors have different time limits), and then you turn it on and display it in the dashboard. The cool thing is, you don't waste money, you only pay for the time you're there. Also, if the meter no longer requires payment at 4PM, the device will automatically stop debiting from the balance at 4PM. Similarly, if ticketing starts at 8AM for a meter, the device will turn on at the appropriate time for that meter, so you don't have to run outside to feed the meter. not my picture... http://www.arlingtonva.us/Department...riParkFAQ.aspx |

I got a ticket for waiting for a parking spot in manhattan..The other car was getting out of the spot and I have to "wait" until he/she gets out completely to get in. My ticket was for double parking.... Why doesn't the city just rob me naked instead of me wasting postage fees mailing in the darn thing. Postage fee is getting expensive with all these nonsense tickets!!!

Agreed Peter,
I try and get work booked as early as I can, but I can guarantee if I go one minute after 8am there's a ticket sat on the car for $83, I'm sure they wait in the shadows Sydney CBD is a total rip off when it comes to parking fines.

I can tell you one of the worst parking stories of our generation, and it involves the whole of Chicago.
Our Benevolent Dear Leader, Daley Jong Richard, moved the city to sell the rights to enforce parking meter violations to a company for 99 years. This city got a $1.25 Bn influx of cash, which is selling this job for less than half the revenue the city could bring in. In exchange, the City sweetened the deal by hiking all meter fares (some went up 400%) and changing the enforcement to include Sundays. This has had some problems that come with it: - Free Sunday parking fed business downtown. The higher fares and no free parking days have hit downtown retailers pretty hard. - Free Sunday parking allowed weekend drunks stumbling out of a bar at 3 am to take a cab and return tomorrow to get their cars. Now they either don't go to the bars downtown (again, hurts businesss), or if they do go they drive home drunk. |

Yep, Chicago is the pits when it comes to parking. I heard yesterday that someone(s) spray painted meters black and stuck gooey stuff in the coin slots of some meters in some neighborhoods!!!

Now we're getting somewhere ... are these the words of someone who has successfully challenged the parking tickets???
Advice ... Words of Wisdom ... all input appreciated! Had multiple "hits" on Thursday - would like to get the damage "minimized"!!! |

The times I have successfully challenged a ticket were when I was totally in the right and had pictures to prove it.
Pictures of a broken meter, or of a mis-marked space, etc. are what I would rely on. |
