Hidden meanings in company logos...
Thought this was interesting...
Can you spot something in this logo? The FedEx logo, designed in 1994 by Linden Leader & Landor Associates, at first appears simple and straightforward. However, if you look at the white space between the "E" and "x" you can see a right-facing arrow. This "hidden" arrow was intended to be a subliminal symbol for speed and precision. That yellow arrow is more than just a decorative swoosh. The Amazon logo was created to represent the message that it sells everything from A to Z (the arrow connects the two letters) and also represents the smile that customers would experience by shopping on the Amazon.com Web site (the arrow becomes a smile). In 2005, as part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Baskin-Robbins launched a new brand identity. The new logo was intended to "capture the fun and energy of Baskin-Robbins." In the old logo, the number "31" appeared within a simple arc, suggestive of a scoop of ice cream, and next to the name. In the new logo, you can see that the "31" still exists. It is now formed by the pink portion of the ice cream store's two initials: "B" and "R." In 1908, in Berne, Switzerland, Theodore Tobler and Emil Baumann (Tobler's cousin), developed a unique chocolate, consisting of a special recipe and a triangular shape. But it wasn't until 1970 that the Matterhorn mountain image appeared on the packaging for the first time. Today there is a bear (symbol of the city of Berne, where Toblerone is produced) hidden in the modern version of the Matterhorn mountain logo. |

There are Masonic symbols of "The All Seeing Eye" , the Triangle/ Pyramid etc on almost every thing that is there on media. You just have to look for them.

That's real cool stuff. Did you figure these out yourself or got it from some mag? The FedEx was known to me, but the others were surprises. |

Yeah the FedEx was one of the first things we talked about in Graphic Design school.
If you're interested in brand identity, check out the blog BrandNew, which reviews new identities that are released. They usually break news about new companies and their logos before anyone else, which is fun to slip into conversations at work, hey did you hear about "blanks" new logo? Check it out: http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/ |

That is so cool.
I remember in the 80's Head & Shoulders had to change their logo because there was a satanic symbol in it.

There is an arrow pointing to right in the Rolex logo between the e and x, symbolizing the passage of time.
I totally made that up. |

How about Evian water? One of the early water in a bottle companies.
Read that name backwards.

Someone better tell Evian-les-Bains, where the water comes from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89vian-les-Bains Though I have thought of that before. There is a chain of convenience stores across Canada called "MACS"... well, that backwards is pretty accurate, too. |

Facinating! I'm curious what other subliminal messages are in our advertising. I was in Nice a few years ago at their main shopping mall (Le Nice Etiole?) and noted a lack of advertising. It was a strange feeling being in a shopping mall with little or no adspace anywhere.

The pyramid isn't a Masonic symbol. The triangle is, but it is a symbol for nigh everything. As for the Eye, that was a Christian symbol first.

I take it all with a pinch of salt, of course, though I did read a rather disturbing article about Camel cigarettes' use of subliminal sexual images cleverly masked within their advertising campaigns during the 60s. They quoted the retired ad executive as saying it's absolutely rife within the industry, though more covertly than their former methods used by Camel.
