Wear and Enjoy

I have a full set of Oyster Perpetuals 31mm, 36mm and 41mm Turquoise and obviously want to enjoy wearing the 41 as I love wearing my watches and I especially enjoy this colour dial. However now this has become sort of a collector piece I am slightly concerned that I could damage the watch that could significantly reduce its value especially as I also have a set.

Am I correct in saying that any damage that may be encountered by normal wear and tear can be repaired by a RSC back to as new condition and therefore just enjoy the watch and don't worry?

I like you guys just want to enjoy just wearing it but obviously, there is now a little bit of concern as the set could be something quite special 10 years from now.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

10 years from now….who knows. It most certainly could be worth more than today, or if this is just a big bubble, or the economy goes south, etc…could be worth less than you paid…very speculative.
I’d say either way…it’s not going to make you thousands upon thousands, nor will it be worth next to nothing.
If you love it, and you’ll enjoy wearing it…then strap it on! It’ll always be worth a little less once used, but not THAT much less to worry about it financially.
It’s not a make or break financial piece, no matter what…IMO

Maybe it just looks weird in ten years from now if a man is wearing a turquoise colored watch! Wear now, enjoy now who knows the future!?

It is possible to wear and cherish but how to go about it is down to the individual.

I'm in the wear and enjoy camp. If they break or get damaged I send them in. If the cosmetic condition of a watch is imperative but you still want to use it as the maker intended, you can get any part replaced if I can not be repaired immaculately.

If your emphasis has now swung towards value retention, future worth and investment potential, you're in the wrong forum.

This right here. Honestly if the few thousand it could go down worries you that much then maybe you should not be in the hobby. If you are purely in the hobby to make money then wrap them up and put in the safe and take out to show your friends. Then say a prayer this isn't just a bubble because 10 yrs down the road you will have missed out on actually enjoying them.

If you actually bought them because you do like them to wear (not sure if this is the case since you bought the same color in three sizes that doesn't make sense to me) then wear them.

Do whatever makes you happy.

What was your original intention for them when buying all three, and what has changed since then?

Just don't REALLY damage it - imagine RSC on seeing damage to dial, say from sapphire break - saying yes we can replace it......but not with that colour as its discontinued and we have no spares!!------ would black or silver do as a replacement?

Cool watch. I do not like owning things that have extreme value based on purchase price and in the future could move up even more or deflate. I am not a speculator and I would see what I could get for the watch now from the Trusted Sellers and I would sell it and take my profit. I would buy a watch that I could wear daily and enjoy. Just my thoughts. Let us know what you decide.

The title of your thread says it all. Wear and enjoy!
RSC can bring the watch back to looking new if ever needed.

My ExpII ( 16570) could drop a few $K in 10 yrs, have real appreciation or just keep up with inflation ( most likely IMHO).

One watch guy who just wears it.

Very possible that in 10yrs my son will be wearing it

Wear and enjoy it for sure. It's mostly a brushed piece so small scratches will not show like they do on polished stainless / gold. Just be mindful of it and don't wear it during high risk activities.

I’m not sure that having three different sizes is a huge plus value size. I could see someone wanting 2 for a his and hers. 3 is like a husband, wife, side chick / girlfriend set?

Wear and enjoy. No reason to speculate if it will be damaged in the future. If there is major concern about wear and tear on a watch then it sounds like a safe queen. Take care.

Wear and enjoy it imo. You can always send it to RSC down the line to repair it. Anything can be replaced/repaired.

Here we go… Whatever happened to buying to wear?

Unless Marty or Doc Brown are on TRF, no one can tell you what your watches will be worth in 10 years OP.

Wear and Enjoy

You own “the full set”, who wears the other ones? Wear the watch if you wanna wear it, yes RSC can do pretty great stuff in repairing/restoration. If you are concerned about it losing value because you wore it, then don’t.

You are asking a bunch of people who frankly are tired of reading value threads over and over again.

Do you enjoy watch collecting as a hobby because you genuinely just like/appreciate fine time pieces, or do you only buy Rolex and see them as money objects? If it’s the latter, there are more fun ways to spend your money.

I own motorbikes and high end bicycles. I ride them a lot because I love riding bikes. Second-hand they are worth even half of what I paid, because I don’t baby them, I ride them hard. Do I care what they will be worth if I scratch them? Nope.

This forum has changed so much, it use to be an enjoyable community. Now it's clearly made up of quite a few people that just love to take pops at people.

You can't ask a simple question without it turning into a negative reply.
As an enthusiast and collector who has a love for watches and the brand, obviously, I want to wear my watches but I just would like to know I don't jeopardise any future value IF there was one to be had, if there isn't any then no problem but IF there was I obviously don't wish to have any regrets.

No different to being a vintage car enthusiast/collector and concerned about the miles you put on your vintage Ferrari as it obviously reduces its future value. I don't know anyone who isn't concerned about miles on a very expensive vintage car.

It was a simple question, can it be worn and restored to new so as not to lose its value if required?. That's all.

Thanks to everyone that gave me a sensible answer much appreciated and the above isn't aimed at you, anyone that didn't are the ones that are making this forum what it is today. Which is unfortunately not the forum it once was.

At least the sensible ones gave me the answer I wanted which appears to mean I can wear them without any real concern as they can be restored to like new, which is all I wanted to hear.

And to answer the, I bought them all because I was offered them all by my AD. Anyone who doesn't or didn't is not being truthful or wishing they did. Let's not be silly about it.

Anyway, I shall refrain from posting any more questions on the forum in future.

Ha. Rolex may think in 10 years thats how things will be, hence the "orgy set".

But the guys 41mm version got discontinued..

Your title sums it up OP - I have my watches to wear - while there is some comfort they can retain and perhaps increase in value I don’t see them as an investment.

Curious, do sets typically command a premium? Say these all get discontinued, are you expecting to get a premium for selling all 3 as a package? Why wouldn't someone just buy each piece individually and save $

Just wear it. No point having it if you worry about it and dont enjoy it.

P.s. Paul Newman Daytona sold for pretty much $18million and it is battered.

There is a Tudor watch with a high value that was shot in Vietnam, deformed and restored.

Restoration is very impressive, you shouldn't worry.
