Attention all Vancouverites

Hi everyone

I'm in the market for a new Rolex but there is no stock at any of the local 4 dealers. My question is the following...have you been able to buy any Rolex at the 4 local dealers? If yes, which model, which dealer, and when?

Thanks everyone!

Hahaha. What will you do with this list? Are you going to confront some AD(s)? I'm hoping yes.

ADs keep on saying we have no stock but I don't really believe that. I'm curious to know what people have been able to get. No I'm not going get confrontational. That's not my style. They always say "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" I want to see which ADs are getting what so that way I know which ADs to approach. Not sure if my strategy will be successful or not but it's worth trying..

In all seriousness, I would abandon this detective work. You will gain no insight into their business and become more frustrated.

Decide on a piece, express your interest, be polite. It's not that complicated. Ultimately have faith that it will go your way.

I went into one three weeks ago. Not a single watch in the store. ZERO. The advisor was not friendly. Pretty off putting. Glad I have a good AD where I live.

Those four dealers are selling plenty of watches, just not to you. I always believe that AD experiences are not “transferable,” you need to make your own. I have “earned” my good AD experience by being a longtime client of my SA and always being friendly and respectable to all of the employees there.
Start by making one reasonable request(you will not get a GMT or Daytona as your first purchase there)and see where it takes you.

AD's do not have stock. All the watches are pre-sold as soon as they get them in.. The SA just calls the person they decide is next on the list to receive so and so watch and that's how it works nowadays.. I know it seems hard to believe but this is the world we live in at the moment..

I visited Montecristo in Richmond Centre in January and their Rolex cases were empty except for a ladies Pearl Master in solid gold. Sales lady was nice and we had a good conversation about the shortage and she said demand for Rolex has soared during the pandemic. Many people see it as another way of storing cash. Then visited Lugaro’s in West Van and the cases were completely bare. I have purchase history with both companies (Tudor and Rolex watches, all SS) but no luck in getting on the real wait list. However with some concerns with the current 32xx movement, I’m ok not getting a new Rolex soon…if I can get on a list then maybe in a few years when I get the call, there will be a revised movement…lol.

You can get a watch, need 30k spend and a good attitude before you will get offered anything. Start with a DJ or Explorer

I don't know what all of you other fine TRF'ers are smoking, but whenever shopping in Vancouver, I always stop by Tokyo Smoke first, then waltz into a new AD and walk out with a white daytona. Easy peasy.

Recently I called GWC about buying another piece. Bought from them in the past. They confirmed that they had no availability, as I suspected. They took my name and added my to their list. I then called the other downtown store, Paladium or whatever it’s called, where the lady told me that I have to come down and talk to a salesperson, at which time they would open a profile or portfolio (can’t remember the exact terminology) to which I just chuckled and declined.

This whole situation has gotten completely detached from reality. I suspect the coming half point BOC rate hike today will be the beginning of putting this craziness to a halt. When 20 somethings with zero net worth are buying five figure time pieces, you know we’ve gone full retard.

I picked up an Explorer from Van Rolex AD. Was a great surprise. I had no purchase history but put in a modest amount of effort to make myself noticeable. While I was in there, there had to have been 20-30 people walk in and ask for a watch. My observations…despite all being told the exact same thing, “zero stock, high demand, we’ll take your digits”…not one person made themselves noticeable. No one looked like they were slightest bit interested in buying something special. No one seemed interested talking watches for example, or sharing their story. I asked SA if any of those people are going to get a watch and he winked. They were all looking for an investment opportunity…at least from where I was sitting, trying on my new Explorer that magically appeared out of nowhere.

Good luck, I'm in Ontario, and think you're asking the wrong questions if you want any useful replies. What you should be asking is what else and how much they spent in order to receive a Rolex.

I can guarantee you over a hundred guys were told "sorry, we don't have any" but I got a Sub Date right away because my wife and I dropped $20k in two months on other things. It sucks that you need to buy other things but easy to swallow if you would have bought them anyways, like us.

Expecting any somewhat desirable Rolex right off the bat nowadays isn't going to happen. If that's all you want, suck it up and go grey or look to another brand. ADs hold all the cards at the moment.

What are you going to do with this info?

“Hey dear (insert location) Rolex AD, the (insert anonymous TRF name) from Rolex forum said he bought (insert model) from you in (insert month/year) so WTF, why can’t I have a (insert model sought)?”

Personally I would start with an OP or datejust and see where that takes you. This is like being 18 and expecting them to sell you a 911.

OP sounds like a flipper. Anytime someone is looking for whatever the AD has in stock they are looking to flip. Pick the one that you want the most and will genuinely wear and enjoy and focus on getting that.

They're all pre-sold. This is coming from someone who has picked up 5 watches since 2021 at two ADs in Vancouver.

I have a decent spend history at my ADs.

At least in my experience the bright blue and black OP41 are pretty available. Been offered them before within a week or two. I don't think they scream flipper. It might just be a starter watch for someone.

I have been to 2 ADs in Vancouver and have been lead to believe that there is a shortage of supply and huge demand leading to year long waits on almost everything, which is kinda true.

However, there are also people posting on local social media showing how they managed to minimize the wait time by meeting certain spending quota at the exact same AD that I have been too. One poster claims he managed to pick up:
1) Batman - 2 weeks wait
2) OP41 black - walk in
3) Bluesy - 3 days wait
4) DJ41 jubilee smooth black - walk in
all within just a couple months.

Like all things from the internet I am taking this with a healthy dose of suspicion, but knowing that the city is famous for capital laundering and heavily influenced by asian money and culture, it is likely to be true. Heck, one of my buddy who expressed interest in an Exp1 at a local AD last year was lead directly into lady's jewelry section to "meet the quota".

How do you arrive at this conclusion? You know absolutely nothing about me so only say what you can back up

For the record, I am a collector and don't see Rolex as an investment. I see it as a work of art that is meant to be enjoyed.

How much are they spending?

I agree that internet is questionable but there is usually some truth to it

Buy from them a couple of tennis bracelets and maybe a diamond ring or two and you’ll find out
