I'm not even a massive fan of the Lange (and I have a Daytona) but I think it would be a bad decision to trade the Lange for a Daytona.
I like the Daytona, but I don't get the hype, there are better watches out there.

Although it's your wrist and you have to be happy with what you put on it, so only you can make that call.

No you are not, Daytona, Nautilus, Royal Oak became more than just watches and ALS doesn’t have a watch there yet alongside VC. I would do the trade if Lange 1 doesn't speak to you anymore regardless of the MSRP.

I wouldn't even consider it. That Lange is on a whole different level.

If you're not feeling the Lange then do what makes you happy . I personally would not do the trade different class of watch all around. The Daytona is a very nice mass produce watch as the Lange is not and is a much finer piece . Good luck with your decision!!

As a daily? Daytona. In a collection? Lange unless you absolutely never wear it. In that case move it.

I would NOT do that. I did a trade similar a few years ago with a complicated PP for a vintage Daytona…it was just a BAD trade. Keep the Lange and try and get the Daytona at list.

As a beater, the Daytona !
As a dress watch, not so ...

Keep the Lange (if you will)

Let's put it this way....I have a black 116500LN and I would not trade it to you for the Lange even if the Lange is a "better expression of horology". The Daytona is a much more versatile and IMO much better looking watch and I know that I'd have a hard time replacing it and that's all that matters to me. I don't care about the Lange pedigree, I have no need for it's complications and I don't like yellow gold nor do I like delicate leather straps so there you have it.

To expand on my previous post....how often do you wear a dress watch? I have dress watches and nothing looks better with a black Tux than my black 116500 Daytona. Just saying.

Amazingly I would not trade Daytona for Lange, and not would I trade Lange for Daytona. I’d just keep and add here.

I know from a sacred horological standpoint, we are supposed to put the Lange on a pedestal and stand in awe of its build/movement.

But give me a break. I would prefer to wear the black dial Daytona everytime.

Different strokes.

I love my black 116500 and it’s my favorite watch wearing it daily. BUT I wouldn’t do that trade! Keep your Lange!!

Like others have said, the Lange is a more interesting watch and higher horology…basically a magnificent specimen. Comparing watch to watch, the Lange is simply more impressive, and it wins in most comparisons for me.

However, there is one scenario in which the trade does make sense (with two factors): 1) if you are a person who places more emphasis on regularly wearing watches vs having a collection (nothing wrong with either ) and 2) the Lange doesn’t get worn much but you would wear the Daytona often, then I’d do it. Otherwise, probably not.

You can get the Lange with papers on Chrono 24 for 35K. So you could probably trade yours for 24-27 K or so and then you'd pay significantly more than that to get the Daytona so that's another way to look at it. https://www.chrono24.com/alangesoehn...id17457034.htm

There you go. “Better” is so subjective at this level. I guarantee the Daytona is more durable, sporty, and certainly more recognizable. A PM Daytona might be another idea. You be you.

I mean, it's your watch so I'm gonna echo the suggestion to do what makes you happy. But I'll just say that if it was my Lange I wouldn't trade it for a Daytona. That Lange is way more unique and special imo - and the Daytona at market prices is WAAAY overpriced if you ask me. I personally would just buy watches at an AD and try to get the Daytona at retail price if possible - it'll take a while but might happen. At least, that's just me anyway.

Thanks to you all for your feedback and for talking me off the ledge. Of my current watches, I wear my Lange the most and work in a white collar environment. There is something about the asymmetrical dial that is mesmerizing. It catches my eye at every stoplight while driving. I may also look to trade it for white gold or platinum reference.

For now, I'll plan on holding onto the Lange and hope to pick up a Daytona at retail (I've been on "the list" for 6 years anyway) or if prices drop - I've never paid over retail for a watch - that might bother me more than anything else!

Your circus and your monkeys. You will do as your heart tells you and your mind will confirm it. I love Lange, but I also love Rolex. Do it if it makes you happier ...

I’d rather own the Daytona. Not a fan of that particular Lange. Of course Lange is “Higher quality though”
