Definitely do it. The black Daytona is an amazing and versatile watch, and you want it. And you clearly don't love the GMT and OP. These are not life-changing money/decisions, so get something you will enjoy on a daily basis.

As a general rule, two watches are better than one.

I did the opposite, a few years ago.

I sold my Daytona and bought a Datejust and a ND Sub, it was a good decision two watches are much better.

I would most definitely not make this trade, especially given the current market conditions.

In a perfect world I'd sell the OP41 and cash in on high market value. From there, hold the cash until a Daytona comes up.

I’d never do that simply because I like the BLNR on the jubilee better than the Daytona anyway. So I wouldn’t make that trade if it was just between those 2.

I would not. Frankly, I wouldn't buy anything on the secondary market at the present, especially if I've already got two great Rolex watches such as the ones you already own.

So, on the quest for the Daytona, I'd hold. When your AD comes through with the "Root Beer", get that one. Maybe your AD can help you find a Daytona at retail. Meanwhile, see how things go on the secondary market over the next six months or so.

It's not an ideal time to sell a watch, but that may change. If and when it does, consider selling one or both of your two current watches, if you find you no longer enjoy owning and wearing them.

But, seller beware! I've heard more stories of seller's regret, and of people buying a replacement for a watch they owned and sold before (sometimes multiple instances of that pattern) than I have heard people post and say, "Gee, really sorry I hung on to this one."

Come to think of it, I've never seen anyone post, "Hi guys, got the old OP 41 (or fill in the blank) out of the safe. Haven't worn it in ages. Really ugly bastard of a watch. Too plain (or fill in the blank). Why the hell did I buy it? And, why the hell did I keep it? Should of sold the damn thing years ago."

When you say your OP41 is blue, which of the two blues are you referring to?

The Daytona is a alluring mistress. The SS Daytona is probably not a bad choice for a one and only as you can swim or whatever with it and look great doing it. It’s also the most comfortable Rolex I have ever had on my wrist.
No denying the Daytona has an X factor to it to the point it even took me by surprise after all the years and Rolex models I have owned. There is no substitute for the Daytona so take that for what it’s worth and decide for yourself what you feel is reasonable to get one. Compromising sucks in the WIS game and getting what you really want is incredibly satisfying and why many do down size for top models.

Black dial ceramic Daytona is the nicest looking Rolex there is, sold mine because it’s consistently difficult to read the time and the chrono is virtually useless.

From a wearable and legible perspective the GMT is more satisfying among my friends that own it.

yeah I kinda feel like the jubilee BLNR is much shinier and has its own uniqueness. I bought mine before they introduce the jubilee bracelet into the gmt product line so. Another reason I want to sell my BLNR is that the power reserve of 48 seems outdated

Indeed it is. I have had my hand on multiple rolex models yet I still want a SS Daytona. Such addiction is completely different with ones you have with BLRO or Hulk which usually wore out with times.

Unlike many, If I could only keep one watch it would be a Daytona. It’s arguably the pinnacle of Rolex, shadowing every other variant by a large margin. Hence, I’d do that trade.

Thanks you all for the precious suggestions! I truly appreciate them all. How many of you believe the secondary price of 116500LN will keep dropping? Since the fed didn’t hike as some people expected, i doubt the price will drop crazily as the past two months from now on? What do y’all think

The Fed did exactly what people expected. Either way, the price is headed back to the mid-20s in my view.

You won’t find that the Daytona drops much. I don’t see the black dial descending below 33k anytime soon.

I guess only times will tell. Holding high liquidity with abundant cash flow sounds like a great tactic

Why have it if you can’t wear it? Not sure what income has to do with being annoyed by damaging it through daily wear unless it’s an “investment.” Wanting to keep it pristine for OCD reasons might warrant it not being an only watch. Whether it’s too loud for an only watch is more subjective and also a fine consideration.

Be sure you want the Daytona - really want it!

I always trade around. I’ve done 2 for one, to a PM. I realized I am not a one watch guy. I suspect you are not, either. You have a plan to add back a GMT at RRP.

If you want the Daytona then get it, but maybe wait a bit. Things are still cooling down. Summer is a slow season for watch sales (except during COVID when people could not travel and had $$ to spend). They are traveling and have less $$ for watches. YMMV

Daytonas are still slowly falling. Saw a black dial under 30k this week. Several under 33k. Probably will keep falling slowly? Maybe? Who knows.

I have made 2 for 1 and even 3 for 1 deals; I didn’t always trade away Rolex (pretty rare actually) but I always got one in return. Personally I’d keep that BLNR as it’s a fantastic watch. Sell the OP, daily the BLNR for a while, and save your money to buy the Daytona you want at a (hopefully) better price…or trade both and have a Daytona/Root Beer combination which ain’t too bad either.

I would sell the OP, keep the GMT, change the root beer to a Sub and wait for the right time to add the Daytona.

How is the black Daytona loud? I honestly don't think so. At least not compared to other Rolex pieces.

This seems like a good move. Especially if you got your two at msrp. I say go for it!

Trading Two Rolexes For One? Should I Make This Move?

I traded a Hulk and DJ41 for a white dial SS Daytona and don’t regret it one bit. The Daytona is just a different thing IMO than any other line of watches they make, and there are no substitutes. There is a reason the SS models have been the only ones to have a waiting list for roughly 35 years.

That said, I wouldn’t trade 2 for 1 if it were my only watch. I also have a Day Date which I wear more than the Daytona, I knew I’d want to change it up at some point. I’ve gone down to one watch in the past a couple of times and ended up buying more, part of the hobby I guess.

So, if it were me - I would wait to see what prices do until September/October and decide if you still wanna do it, though optimally you’d just sell/trade one of your Rolex instead of both.

Also - the white dial IMO is “the one” to have between the 116500’s.

Good luck.
