You can measure margin, i.e. how much people are willing to pay for your item relative to what it cost you to make, and by that standard, every big brand is overvalued. Even though less popular brands like VC and Lange are far better than more popular ones where people are thankful to pay list, if not premiums on top of that. But Etshell, with all due respect, there are few brands in the industry that do as well to really keep the art of the craft alive as VC. Whether or not they have built a couple too many boutiques in China can be debated, but I would argue the price to value ratio is still very much one of the best you’ll get with VC... unless of course you want the entire industry to be Torsti Laine, who, really, I have no idea how he pays the bills with how little he charges for his work.

Yes Laine makes nice watches.

Vc does as well. I can have an opinion. Doesn't mean people need to agree of course.

At $32,621 out the door for the 5500V chrono I agree I definitely didn't feel like it was undervalued.

This is my exact watch- my first VC and I love it!!!
Sure I have rolexes, patek, panerai, Tudor , Glashutte, etc and I love them all !!!
This is like which exotic car is the best, which yacht, etc
For me I am fortunate to have many and like my children I love them all equally !!!

That is not true. I placed deposit with boutique 2 days ago and they told me they will honour the current price.

This is incorrect.
The price is the one noted on the pro-format invoice that we receive when we pay the 50% deposit. It can't go up (or down, but it never happened).
I had the seller's response from a VC boutique (Geneva) and official, written confirmation.

If the representative abroad says the opposite, and wants to charge his customers an additional amount, it should be reported to the Swiss manufacturer.

Too large for me. They should do a 39mm overseas and more people will bite. The open worked PC is drop dead gorgeous though.

I noticed that VC has mysteriously disappeared from the Hodinkee shop. Does anyone know if this is permanent? Did I miss the memo???

Maybe VC is trying to do the "Boutique sales only" thing?

All what it takes is for a celebrity or hip hop figure talks about the overseas or seen wearing them and watch it go to the moon

Honestly all of that doesn’t matter to me! I am very impressed with the unique “personality” the overseas has

I remember when the 5711 used to go for mid 50sK or when I was offered the platona for $50K from my AD and of course the famous green dial daytona……etc.

The next celebrity talking about VC and watch it go to the moon!!!

I recently sold my black 4500. Great watch, but fit on the wrist is hit or miss for a lot of people. It was just a tad broad on the bracelet, but ok-ish on the rubber. Brought it to a gtg with some watch buddies and almost all of them found it too large. Have now replaced it with a full calendar 56 that fits much much better.

Vacheron still seems like it has a weak vintage and secondhand market despite the Overseas and the vintage 222 gaining traction in recent years.

I remember reading articles about Vacheron being undervalued 10+ years ago and the brand still hasn't gotten anywhere. Their vintage chronographs still sell for significantly less than the Patek equivalent.

I hope it stays this way. I still need to grab a handworked skeleton and a triple calendar.

Tom Cruise was seen wearing an ultra thin perpetual calendar recently. Tough to sell to the masses like Rolex does when they are $140,000 vs a colorful OP they saw their favorite baller wearing.

It's actually an interesting phenomenon.

Why is Vacheron still such a weak brand despite what seems the brand's best efforts?

They have their Hour Lounge, collabs with Mr.Porter, big ads, influential cheerleaders like Alex Ghotbi, Ben Clymer, etc.

I would argue that it is anything but a weak brand.

It simply does not have the faux hype and online slobbering over values and poser status.

Perfect for me, I want to own and wear watches and enjoy them. The less I am like someone else, the better.

Few can even come close to Vacheron's history, tradition or innovation. Which to me is what haute horology is all about.

It's a strong brand but has a weak second hand market. In fact even brands like Longines and Omega seem to have a stronger and more devoted second hand market than VC.

That's something which I don't quite get. It should have all the ingredients to compete with Patek on the vintage market but it just can't with a few small exceptions.

I believe they also buy up their own pieces on the auction market like Patek so it's not like the brand isn't trying. Maybe it's because they never had a hit watch like AP with the RO and PP with the Nautilus?
